Gareth Southgate announced his 26-man England squad for the Qatar World Cup on Thursday as the team prepares to fly to Qatar this month.

Several teams have thus far made their roster announcements, including Brazil, Germany, and France. At a tournament that has been abruptly inserted into the midst of the season, England's Group B opener is just 11 days away, and manager Gareth Southgate has made a few surprises.

While many familiar faces such as Raheem Sterling, Mason Mount, or Bukayo Saka are called up, several standout names were notably missing.

Here are 5 footballers who are not representing England in the World Cup.

Fikayo Tomori

Early reports from St George's Park indicate that AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori may not have made the England World Cup roster. The professional football player for both the England national team and Serie A club AC Milan was born on December 19, 1997. In recent seasons, Tomori has been one of the most consistent defenders in Series A, helping AC Milan win their domestic trophy in the last season.

The ex-Chelsea player, though, has not contributed enough, claims The Telegraph, to merit a position.

Ivan Toney

Ivan Toney, a striker for Brentford, wasn't selected by Southgate for the England team. The English professional football player who plays as a striker for Premier League team Brentford was born on March 16, 1996. He made his first-team debut for Northampton Town in 2012, becoming the club's youngest player ever before joining Newcastle United in 2015.

He spent two separate loan periods with Barnsley during his debut season at Newcastle, where they won the League One play-offs and the Football League Trophy. He played for Shrewsbury Town, Scunthorpe United, and Wigan Athletic throughout the next two seasons while on loan in League One.

He is enjoying a fantastic season at the EPL, scoring 10 goals after 14 games.

Tammy Abraham

Tammy Abraham, an English professional footballer who was born on October 2, 1997, plays as a striker for Series A club Roma and the England national team.

He was a Chelsea promising youngster who made his first-team debut in 2016 before spending a year on loan with Bristol City of the Championship. There, he became the only player to ever win the club's Player of the Season, Young Player of the Season, and top goalscorer honours in the same season. In November 2017, he debuted at the senior level for England.

Regarding forwards, Tammy Abraham seems to have fallen by the wayside. After leaving Stamford Bridge, he had a spectacular season at the Stadio Olimpico, but so far this year, his play has been inconsistent.

Joe Gomez

Joe Gomez, a Liverpool defender, hasn't done enough to get a seat on the flight. According to The Athletic, his comeback at Liverpool and a few defensive injuries may have earned him a berth, but he was eventually left out following poor performances at the Merseyside club this season.

Gomez played every minute of every game when England won the 2014 UEFA European Under-17 Championship, representing England at every level. In November 2017, he made his senior team debut for England.

Reece James

Defender for Chelsea Reece James, who is arguably England's top right back, won't be going to Qatar because of a knee injury he picked up last month.
