Andy Murray's wife has maintained a strong support system throughout his tennis career, but what else do we know about the tennis star's wife?
Andy Murray is considered one of the world's best tennis players and he has established himself within the Big Four within the sport, which includes Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, and Murray himself. Sky Sports reports on his recent victory against American Emilio Nava, noting Murray's physical prowess against the 20-year-old competitor, and his firm grasp upon the sport.
Alongside his rise throughout his professional career, his wife Kim Sears has been an integral part of supporting his pursuits by being present in nearly all of his games throughout the past decade, cheering him on, and celebrating his victories beside him.
Who is Kim Sears?
Kim Sears was born in 1987 and studied at Sussex University where she made an achievement of receiving A-grades in art, music, and drama. In addition to supporting her husband's career, she follows her own passion for art by creating pet portraits through her company Brushes and Paws.
In 2016, Sears explored writing by penning a book titled How to Look After Your Human: A Dog's Guide from the perspective of the family's beloved terrier, Maggie Mayhem. The family recently mourned the death of Maggie on July 9, 2022.
Their first encounter with each other
The first time the couple saw each other was during the US Open in 2005—Sears was 17 and Murray was 18. Their encounter was facilitated by Kim's father, Nigel Sears as he was the head of the Women's Tennis Association at the time. Their relationship was made known to the public following Murray's first tournament win in 2006 when he kissed Sears after his victory.
A short break followed by a strong knot
According to The Daily Mail, the couple briefly split in 2009 under amicable terms. The relationship was rekindled in 2010 and they have been inseparable ever since. At that point, Sears and Murray had been together for nearly four years and they got engaged in 2014. The couple officially tied the knot in Dunblane Cathedral on April 11, 2015, which marked nearly ten years of their relationship. The strength of their relationship is often highlighted particularly through the continuous support that Sears maintains for her husband's career.

A year after their marriage, Sears gave birth to their eldest daughter Sophia in 2016, and in 2017 they welcomed their second child Edie. In 2019, Sears gave birth to their son Teddy, and 2021 marked the birth of their fourth child, a daughter whose name hasn't been revealed yet. The family currently lives in an impressive five-bedroom estate in Surrey with their dog Rusty and they maintain a level of privacy with their personal matters.
A brief controversy
Following Andy Murray's victory against Czech tennis player Tomas Berdych at the Australian Open in 2016, the cameras caught Kim shouting expletives against her husband's opponent, and The Independent notes that according to lip readers, she had yelled out '“f***ing have it you Czech f***ing f***.' Murray defended his wife noting that 'in the heat of the moment you can say stuff that you regret. And, yeah, that’s it.'
The Guardian reported on how Sears responded to the controversy with a pinch of salt, taking a dig at herself by wearing a t-shirt that had an explicit content label on the front.
