The spotlight is on Rishi Sunak's family as he just becomes the UK's new Prime Minister following Liz Truss' resignation.

His wife, Akshata Murty, is a billionaire's daughter, and their garden parties are among the most popular events in their hometown, according to The Guardian.

The focus is on the family getting ready to move into No. 10 after Sunak becomes the UK's new Prime Minister in a very short race that witnessed Penny Mordaunt's quit.

Who is Rishi Sunak's wife?

In 1980, Indian parents who had immigrated to the UK from east Africa gave birth to Sunak in Southampton. His mother owned a pharmacy, while his father practiced general practice. The eldest of three children, Sunak received his education at Winchester College, a luxury boarding school. He then attended the University of Oxford to study politics, philosophy, and economics, where he got a first-class degree. At Stanford University, where he subsequently earned an MBA, he met Akshata Murty, the woman who would become his wife.

Murty, 42, is the daughter of NR Narayana Murthy, an Indian millionaire who established the software giant Infosys and is frequently referred to as the Bill Gates of India. His daughter reportedly owns a 0.91% share in the business, which is worth roughly £700 million.

According to the Mirror, she received a degree in fashion after studying economics and French at the exclusive Claremont McKenna College in California, worked at Deloitte and Unilever, and then attended Stanford to pursue an MBA.

In 2009, the pair wed in a two-day ceremony in her hometown of Bengaluru that had 1,000 guests in attendance. As Sunak ran against Liz Truss for the leadership position throughout the summer, their two kids, Krishna and Anoushka, joined him on the campaign route.

What is Murty's job?

Murty is the CEO of her clothing line, Akshata Designs, as well as the director of a venture capital company that her father started in 2010. She is listed as a director for the gym network Digme Fitness, the men's clothing retailer New & Lingwood, and the capital and private equity company Catamaran Ventures on LinkedIn.

It was discovered in April that Murty was a non-domiciled UK resident, which allowed her to avoid paying UK taxes on her foreign income in exchange for paying a £30,000 yearly fee.

Sunak received a government paycheck of £151,649 as a chancellor and MP.

With a combined wealth of £730 million, the pair entered the Sunday Times rich list for the first time in May 2022, making Sunak the first politician to do so since the list's inception in 1989.

Rishi Sunak's rise to power

Before joining the cabinet as chief secretary to the Treasury in 2019, he held the position of parliamentary undersecretary of state for local government from 2018 and 2019. He was one of the youngest chancellors in history when he was appointed in February 2020, and he oversaw the budget during the epidemic, according to The Guardian.
