Since meeting in 2016, Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn have become one of Hollywood's most private power couples.

In a rare statement, Taylor Swift says she ignores strange rumors about her relationship with English actor Joe Alwyn.

Taylor spoke about her new song

The 32-year-old singer said she initially heard the word 'lavender haze' while watching AMC's Mad Men and fell in love with its 'really beautiful' meaning. Lavender Haze is the title of the first song on her upcoming album Midnights.

She clarified in a video that was uploaded to Instagram on Thursday:

'I happened upon the phrase Lavender Haze when I was watching Mad Men, and I looked it up because I thought it sounded cool. And it turns out that it's a common phrase used in the '50s, where they would just describe being in love.'

The Love Story star added:

'If you were in the lavender haze, then that meant that you were in that all-encompassing love glow, and I thought that was really beautiful.'

More specifically, Taylor said that the song was motivated by her six-year affair with the 31-year-old and how they 'dodge' rumors about it in order to 'protect the real stuff'.

She said:

'I think a lot of people have to deal with this now, not just like 'public figures,' because we live in the era of social media. And if the world finds out that you're in love with somebody, they're gonna weigh in on it.'

The hitmaker continued:

'Like my relationship for six years, we've had to dodge weird rumours, tabloid stuff, and we just ignore it. And so this song is sort of about the act of ignoring that stuff to protect the real stuff.'

In her caption, the Grammy winner gushed:

'Tonight we mayhem til the morning! AND release vinyls with pics I signed in them on my site! Gonna be a wild ride.'

Taylor revealed the names of the songs that would be on her forthcoming album in the most recent episode of her TikTok series Midnights Mayhem with Me, which is followed by Taylor's Instagram post.

Spinning a bingo cage of numbered balls, Taylor said in the clip: 'The tension is palpable.'

After the number one popped out, she announced: 'Track one is called Lavender Haze.'

The songs on the record, according to Taylor, were inspired by 13 sleepless nights over the past three years during which she got up to write lyrics.

She stated the following in an online statement announcing the new project:

'This is a collection of music written in the middle of the night, a journey through terrors and sweet dreams. The floors we pace and the demons we face.'

Additionally, it was claimed this week that Taylor will start a ‘massive stadium tour’ in 2023 to promote the new record.

She had previously been the star of five tours, the most recent of which being the Reputation World Tour in 2018, which broke the record for the highest-grossing tour of all time with earnings of around $350 million.

A look back at Taylor and Joe's romance

British actor Joe Alwyn and the Grammy-winning singer were first linked romantically in May 2017, when it was discovered that they had allegedly been seeing each other secretly for months. Although it's unclear when they originally connected, some have theorized that Swift and Alwyn met during the 2016 Met Gala.

The pair have since shared a lot of adorable moments in public, but they have largely kept the specifics of their relationship a secret. Swift stated why she avoids discussing her relationship with Alwyn in a 2019 interview with The Guardian, stating, ‘I've learned that if I do, people think it's up for discussion, and our relationship isn't up for discussion.’
