As per customs, the Queen welcomed the new Prime Minster at her residence, but photos give rise speculations amongst Royal fans.
Liz Truss has officially taken over as the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. Truss held an audience with the Queen at her residence in Balmoral Castle in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, where the monarch is spending her annual summer holiday.
While many were elated to see the Queen after a short absence in addition to cheering on the new PM, some netizens expressed their concerns for the Monarch.
Meeting the new Prime Minister
Hello! Magazine reports it is common for the Royal Family to invite Prime Ministers to Balmoral, but this is the first time the Queen has appointed a new PM at the residence. Additionally, Truss is the first of 15 PMs, throughout the seven decades of the Monarch's reign, who has been appointed at Balmoral instead of London.
Looking comfortably chic in a blue blouse topped with a cardigan and long pleated tartan skirt, the Queen was pictured in good spirits with a wide smile while meeting Truss. Prior to meeting Truss, the Monarch met with Boris Johnson and his wife Carrie. Fans of the Royalty were happy to see the Queen in a visibly jubilant mood, but expressed concerns over the bruising on her hands.
What could cause such bruising?
This is not the first time the Queen has been seen with bruising on her hands. Earlier this year, Express reported on a similar kind of bruising during a meeting with Nicola Sturgeon, the First Minister of Scotland. The same concerns arose in 2019 according to a report from Metro. Although the Queen showcased a perfectly healthy demeanor, the people couldn't help but express their worries.
'Wishing the Queen a speedy recovery and hoping her health stabilizes' a fan noted, adding that 'the very large, what looks like a bruise on her hand is worrying.'
According to Express, General Practitioner Giuseppe Aragona noted that the reason for the bruising could be due to a 'lack of circulation, frail skin, exposed veins, bruising, a leakage of blood to the tissue beneath the skin causing the colour.'
He also added that 'it could be cyanosis which occurs when there is not enough oxygen in the blood.'
Taking a step back from events
The Queen recently had to cancel the Scottish ceremony that inaugurates her visit to Balmoral, a tradition that she hasn't broken in 70 years, reports Express. This marks another event that the Monarch missed this year, in addition to the church service during her Platinum Jubilee Celebration and the first day of the Royal Ascot horse racing event, New York Post reports.
Although concerns for the Queen's health arise amongst the public every now and then, Buckingham Palace hasn't made any comments on the subject. Moreover, at the age of 96, it is understandable that the Monarch may want to take a step back at times. Her experience with COVID-19 has also left her feeling 'very tired and exhausted' reports BBC.
Prince William and Prince Charles are royally obliged to carry out the royal duties in the Queen's stead, and Buckingham Palace has announced that other members of the Royal Family are tasked with attending the garden parties in 2022.
