Jake Paul believes this is why Tommy Fury withdrew from their fight again

The eagerly-awaited boxing match between Jake Paul and Tommy Fury was held off for the second time after Fury was prevented from boarding a flight to the US, leaving Paul no choice but to pivot to Hasim Rahman Jr. as his new opponent.

According to Mirror, a scheduled boxing match between Paul and Fury was canceled for the second time as the latter had to pull out of the fight because of visa issues. The 23-year-old boxer from Manchester is said to have been denied access to the U.S ahead of flying there to attend the fight's press conference. Hasim Rahman Jr. would therefore step in as Paul's new opponent for his August 6 date at New York’s Madison Square Garden.

This is not the first time Tommy Fury, who is also famous for starring in Love Island 2019, has called off a pre-scheduled clash with Jake Paul. Back in December, Fury also withdrew from the tense matchup due to a bacterial chest infection and a broken rib, as noted by The Sun.

Both Tommy Fury and his brother were barred from entering the U.S

Explaining his cause, the Love Island runner-up took to Instagram and said:

'And as soon as I entered the airport, I got pulled to one side and I was told by the Homeland Security officer that was there that my ESTA had been denied and I wasn’t able to travel to the USA for a reason that I apparently know.'

Tommy went on to claim that he'd been preparing for the match and was unaware of the issue, which he now believes is 'a lot bigger than the fight'.

'I’ve been training for a fight this whole time and that’s all I’ve been doing. Obviously, it is a matter that needs to be resolved. It’s government issues, it’s a lot bigger than the fight right now and I’m just trying to get it sorted.'

Tommy's visa issue came just ten days after his brother, famous WBC heavyweight champion Tyson met the same problem. 'The Gypsy King', as he is known, reportedly has connections to the Kinahan Organised Crime Group (KOCG), prompting the U.S Treasury to refuse Tyson's entry into the country.

Tyson was already heavily involved with the matchup, having reportedly poured over £1 million on his brother's winning the showdown.

Paul believes Tommy Fury fears fighting him

Paul, however, isn’t convinced by Fury's visa excuse. On June 30, the Youtuber-turned-boxer took to Twitter to share the situation. In the post, the brother of Logan Paul claimed Tommy was 'in hiding':

In another social media post, Paul said:

'For me, I want to knock him the f*** out and make them pay for all this s*** that he’s done and put me through, and all the money that’s been lost trying to put on these events with him. He has to own up that, he has to pay for that.'

The 25-year-old boxer's anger came after Tommy's father, John Fury, revealed that his son 'wasn't exactly in training' for the Paul clash and would need to lose over two stone. John told DAZN:

'Tommy wasn't exactly in training. He'd only had about 10 days because he'd been on holiday and it was a surprising thing for him. I was a way out of it doing these tours and being busy elsewhere so I never got the chance to look at it properly. When I've paid attention, I noticed the whole thing wasn't right anyway.'

Following Fury's father's statement, Paul tweeted: 'I should sue this fool. Own dad exposes why he pulled out a second time.'

Paul said this week on The MMA Hour:

'I believe exactly what his dad said. I believe that he was out of shape and his dad was like, ‘Don’t take this fight right now. That’s what I truly believe happened, and that he blamed the whole entire thing about not being able to get in because of a visa, which doesn’t make any sense because a month earlier he was in Los Angeles on vacation.'

Mirror adds that Fury's previous rival Anthony Taylor also believes he was fearful of the consequences if he lost to Paul. Taylor revealed that Tommy's brother, Tyson, warned his brother last year that he would be ridden of his iconic Fury name if he couldn't beat Paul, a 'YouTube guy'. 'The Gypsy King' said during an interveiw: 'His name's Fury. If he can't beat Jake Paul, I'll have to change his name.'

Taylor said, regarding Tommy Fury's reason for declining the fight:

'And he knows the consequences of losing. If he loses, he loses sponsorships, he’ll be disowned from his boxing family - why go through the headache?'

Paul would face a much tougher challenge

Paul is now facing Hasim Rahman Jr as the replacement for Fury on his August 6 showdown. According to The Sun, the 'Gold Blooded' will be a much harder fight for the Youtuber-turned-boxer. Rahman Jr, who is the son of former two-time boxing champion Hasim Rahman, is currently holding a 12-1 record with more than 100 amateur fights. His colossal 6-foot-3 weight makes his upcoming clash with Paul a David vs Goliath fight.

If the 'Problem Child' could defeat Rahman, the possibility of a third clash with Tommy Fury would be ruled out. Taylor said:

'If Jake defeats Hasim, you’re not going to see Jake fight Tommy. That would be a step back after defeating Hasim. Why take a step back after beating a guy with a great amateur pedigree.'
