Champions League giant Bayern Munich have reportedly made Harry Kane their top summer transfer target, with initial negotiations between the club and his agent being reportedly underway.

Tottenham Hotspur striker can 'imagine' playing for Bayern Munich, according to fresh reports, with the German champions linked with a plot move for the England international, reports TalkSports.

Kane's contract with Tottenham remains until 2024

Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic recently played down reports of interest in the 29-year-old, who has been linked with a move to Bayern after Robert Lewandowski left the club to join Barcelona in the summer. According to Bild, the England international is on the German giant's transfer watchlist for 2023, too. However, others within the club have given different answers over signing Kane, whose current deal in north London runs until 2024.

The Bundesliga side may be undergoing a gap in their squad after talisman Robert Lewandowski's summer move to Barcelona. New arrival Mathys Tel scored his first league goal over the weekend, becoming Bayern's youngest ever league goalscorer in the process. Meanwhile, former Liverpool winger Sadio Mane is also showing his aptitude at Bundesliga, having netted 5 times. Nonetheless, a player of Kane's caliber could offer something different.

According to Sky Sports, Bayern is first waiting to see whether the current front-line performs under manager Julian Nagelsmann. If there are any signs of struggle, though, a move for Kane could materialize.

Internal discussions have reportedly already taken place at Bayern, with debate over whether they need a number nine to replace Lewandowski. Sky also reports that there has been contacting with Kane's agent and brother Charlie and that the player ‘can really imagine joining Bayern’.

Bayern's struggling with a lack of a target man

Nagelsmann's side is in the rare position of not having a target man on their side, going into a season without Lewandowski for the first time since 2013. However, they have reinforced in attack, with Tel and Sadio Mane arriving for a combined £45m.

Kane, however, could be Bayern's deadly weapon should he come to the German club. He scored his 250th goal for Tottenham this season and also reached 188 Premier League goals when he netted against Fulham on September 3. He now sits third in the all-time charts for the competition, behind only Wayne Rooney and Alan Shearer.

Back in July, Bayern CEO Oliver Kahn was quizzed on the striker and didn't rule out a move. The former legend goalkeeper told Bild:

‘He is under contract at Tottenham. Sure, he is an absolute top striker, but that's all a dream of the future. So let's see what happens.’

Nagelsmann was also full of praise for the striker, though he stopped short of saying a bid was in the works. Kane is 'very expensive - and that’s the problem,’ the manager said.

‘But he’s a brilliant player, one of two or three who can play as a center forward. In the last couple of years, he’s been more of a No 10. But Kane is very strong, brilliant with their head and both feet. He could score a lot in the Bundesliga.’

With their new-look attack, Bayern has scored 19 times in their first six Bundesliga games this season. That hasn't been enough to keep them top, though, with three successive draws keeping them third, two points behind league leaders Union Berlin.
