What do the British royals call each other? As the Mirror reported on 14 July, Camilla Parker Bowles has been given a very unexpected nickname by George, Charlotte and Louis.

In public, each member of the British Royal Family is called by a title. Prince William is known as “His Royal Highness Prince William” or “His Royal Highness the Duke of Cambridge”. The same goes for Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice, or Kate Middleton who, thanks to her marriage to William, is called “Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cambridge”. On the other hand, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been able to forget about the title of Royal Highness since they are officially no longer senior members of the royal family: a decision pronounced by Queen Elizabeth II last February, a few days before the Montecito exiles' interview with Oprah Winfrey. But although the Windsors have these public titles, it's a different story in private.

The history of Queen Elizabeth II's nickname

As everyone knows, Her Majesty has always been nicknamed “Lilibet” by those closest to her. This nickname dates from her childhood, because she couldn't pronounce her first name correctly. The late Prince Philip always called his wife by that nickname! What proof is there that the nickname “Lilibet” holds an important place in the royal family? Meghan Markle and Prince Harry decided to name their daughter after Queen Elizabeth II. Archie's little sister, born on 4 June, is called Lilibet Diana. A name that has been approved by the Queen herself! The monarch had the honour of being the first to be informed of the birth of her great-granddaughter and met her first, via a video call.

“My own grandchildren call me Gaga.”

We know that Prince William was known to call his grandmother “Gary”, and the new generation of Windsors also have their own nicknames. For example, little George decided to nickname the Queen “GanGan”. As reported by the Mirror on Wednesday, 14th July, little George, Charlotte and Louis call the late Lady Diana “Granny Diana”. As for Prince Charles, he has also inherited a nickname that suits him, as his grandchildren call him “Grandpa Wales”! Camilla Parker Bowles, on the other hand, is not called “Grandma” or “Nanny”. Instead, the Cambridge kids call her... “GaGa”! A nickname that the Duchess of Cornwall had already revealed in 2013. “My own grandchildren call me GaGa. I don't know if it's because they think I am! It's funny and actually very cute”, she told the Daily Mail, smiling. Adorable!
