In a recent eruption of royal controversy, Paul Burrell, Princess Diana's former butler, has unleashed a torrent of criticism towards Omid Scobie's new book, Endgame: Inside the Royal Family and the Monarchy's Fight for Survival.

Burrell's fiery critique extends to none other than Meghan Markle, with the ex-butler making some bold statements about the Duchess's character and intentions.

Endgame has hit the shelves amidst a storm of media attention, making headlines for its audacious claims about the Royal Family. The book includes startling allegations, such as two members of the Royal Family making racist comments about Archie, Prince Harry and Meghan's son.

Scobie, who penned this controversial piece, has denied interviewing Meghan and Prince Harry for his headline-making book. He admitted to having mutual friends with Meghan, aiding his information gathering, but refuted any direct connection to the Duchess of Sussex.

Despite these denials, the book has been met with skepticism and criticism from various quarters, including Burrell. He expressed his disappointment, especially with Prince Harry, for the information that seems to emanate from sources close to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Burrell, who has been known to weigh in on royal affairs in the past, said:

"Harry should know better than to do what he's doing. He was taught better than that. His mother brought him up very well."

Burrell's criticism of Meghan Markle

Burrell did not hold back in his comparison between Meghan Markle, who was recently reported to be house hunting, and Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales. He lauded Kate for her impeccable conduct, saying:

"Kate hasn't put a foot wrong and Kate has something which Meghan doesn't have: Class."

This stark contrast drawn by Burrell underscores his perception of Meghan as falling short of the timeless elegance he attributes to Kate. Further elaborating on Meghan's role within the Royal Family, Burrell suggested that Meghan's departure from the UK to the US was driven by her reluctance to be a "supporting actress."

He went further, saying, "They're no longer part of the Royal Family: They’re celebrities. But their only USP is royal gossip."

Trying to stay relevant

Burrell emphasised the idea that they have transitioned from being royals to celebrities, reliant on royal gossip for maintaining their relevance. This shift, according to Burrell, challenges the traditional perception of the Royal Family and the standards they uphold.

The former butler's opinions echo the mixed reception of Endgame among the public and critics. The book has been labeled by some as "laughably partial, devoid of insight and bizarrely misogynistic," while another review called the author "hyperbolic" and compared the book to a press release.

In concluding his thoughts, Burrell seemed to offer a veiled plea to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. "I wish them well but leave our Royal Family alone," he stated, implying a desire for Harry and Meghan to distance themselves from royal affairs and controversies. The release of Endgame and the subsequent reactions, notably by Paul Burrell, mark another chapter in the ongoing saga of the British Royal Family.
