The prestigious title was awarded by the high-end fashion retailer, Karen Millen, following a thorough analysis of over five million social media posts featuring style-related hashtags on platforms like TikTok and Instagram. To determine the winners, the researchers scrutinized Google searches made by fashion enthusiasts and assessed each half of the couples separately, looking for key terms like 'style,' 'outfit,' and 'fashion.' The scores were then averaged, resulting in an interest score out of 10, and it's safe to say that Prince William and Kate Middleton blew away the competition with a perfect score of 10/10.
But, as much as we'd like to think it's a joint victory, the heavy lifting in this fashionable power couple was undeniably done by Kate Middleton. Her red carpet gowns, penchant for pant suits, and a special love for Zara seem to have the world captivated. TikToks associated with her style, for instance, garnered an astounding average of 381.4 million views per hashtag. This is a figure that truly overshadows other big names like supermodel Hailey Bieber, who managed 229 million views per hashtag, claims Metro. On Instagram, Kate also reigned supreme with an average of 72.6k posts under each fashion-related hashtag, outperforming even music sensation Taylor Swift, who scored 43.7k posts.
In contrast, Prince William, although still an influencer, ranked in the top 15 male celebrities for online interest, just ahead of Tom Hiddleston, with a relatively modest 7.9k views on his wardrobe-related TikToks.
The runners-up in this fashion showdown were Hailey and Justin Bieber, famous for their contrasting styles. Justin had more style-related Instagram posts, averaging 22.4k posts per hashtag, but this pales in comparison to his wife Hailey's impressive 38.3k. Kendall Jenner and her boyfriend, Bad Bunny, secured the third position, while Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce landed in fourth place, with their social media presence making waves and Taylor's support for the Kansas City football games sparking a 400% increase in jersey sales.
Meghan and Harry's declining online presence
Surprisingly, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who are undeniably style icons in their own right, came in fifth. Meghan, the most searched-for female celeb, attracted 104% more average searches than Kate Middleton. However, it was Harry's relatively limited presence online that affected their collective score, with just 100 posts per hashtag compared to Meghan's 39,700. Meghan also had a staggering 58,366,667 TikTok views, showing her substantial influence.
Some celebrity couples that were expected to do well in the fashion department surprisingly ranked lower. Zendaya and Tom Holland found themselves in the 12th position, lagging behind Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds. Even fashion icons like Rihanna and ASAP Rocky, as well as power couple Beyoncé and Jay-Z, scored a mere 0.4 and 0.1, respectively.
A spokesperson from Karen Millen highlighted the impact of certain celebrity duos on mainstream culture, emphasizing that some couples influence the fashion world more than others, irrespective of fans' opinions. The research findings underscore the power of celebrities as style icons and how their influence extends to what their fans wear and buy.
William and Harry's contrasting pictures
In a separate survey conducted by YouGov, Prince William and Kate Middleton's popularity in the UK remained impressive, with William topping the list as the most popular royal. His favorability ranking stood at 74%, while Kate was not far behind at 72%.
This surge in favor is in stark contrast to the declining popularity of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, who scored 24% and 31%, respectively. Disgraced Prince Andrew, who has been under public scrutiny for his association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, was viewed positively by only 6% of respondents.
