Thomas John Woodward, 82, was born to Thomas Woodward and Freda Jones. His venture into music began at the early age, and he would sing in his school choir, family gatherings and weddings, reports Smooth Radio. However, at the age of 12 he got diagnosed with tuberculosis and his recovery period ended up extending to two years.
His career officially began when he became the face of Tommy Scott and the Senators in 1963, which was a beat group from Wales. Producer Joe Meek assisted the band in recording songs, but they couldn't find much success.
However, it took one night to entirely change the dimensions of the band when the manager Gordon Mills spotted Jones and eventually became the singer's manager. After moving to London, the singer changed his name to Jones, intending to reflect the success of the movie released in the same year. In 2012, his popularity saw a resurgence after he took up a coaching position in the The Voice UK.
His married life
At the age of 17, Tom Jones married Linda Trenchard, his high school sweetheart, in 1957. The couple were expecting a child together the time. According to his autobiography Over the Top and Back, both of them fell for each other at the age of 12.
The couple were together for 59 years until 2016, when she passed away after a 'short but fierce' fight with cancer, reports HELLO! Magazine. Following her death, Jones paid a heartfelt tribute to her at the Pride of Britain Awards.
He said:
I recently lost my wife, my wife passed away and she was very important to me. There are a lot of people I'm proud of.
He added:
You've got to carry on, you have to, if I don't I'll fold. So music and everything that goes with it is keeping me alive, it keeps me going. And that's what she would want. She told me that. And so it's giving me strength. She knew how much it meant to me. And I'm doing it... I'm keeping my head above water.

The singer is currently recovering from a second hip replacement, noting that he is intending to return to the public eye soon once he fully recovers. Previously, the singer had his first hip replacement in 2017, reports Evening Standard.
