After three years of retiring from the motion picture industry, Cameron Diaz is set to make a grand return for an upcoming Netflix film alongside Jamie Foxx, marking her first movie since 2014.

Contrary to popular belief, Cameron Diaz first shot to fame as a model. At age 16, the American actress already made a name for herself when starring in ad campaigns for global brands such as Calvin Klein, Levi's, and Coca-Cola. Her successful modeling career earned Cameron her first film role in 1994 when she played the female lead in the blockbuster action-comedy The Mask alongside Jim Carrey, the king of slapstick movies.

Following the impressive on-screen debut, Cameron went on to star in various movies, ranging from low-budget and independent ones such as The Last Supper (1995) and Feeling Minnesota (1996) to mainstream hits such as My Best Friend's Wedding (1997). Throughout her career, Cameron Diaz is famous for her light-hearted sense of humor, which earned the 49-year-old actress a multitude of accolades, including nominations for four Golden Globe Awards and a BAFTA Award. Despite boasting a relatively high-profile portfolio, Cameron shocked her fans back in 2018 when she decided to retire from acting. However, the Hollywood star is full steam ahead of her grand on-screen comeback with a much-anticipated Netflix film.

She will co-star Jamie Foxx for the second time

It sounds unbelievable, but Cameron Diaz's last on-screen appearance stretched back to 2014 when the actress starred in the musical comedy-drama film Annie. Since then, Cameron remained inactive before calling it quits on her acting career in 2018 shortly before she gave birth to daughter Raddix Madden, her first child with husband Benji Madden.

According to Rolling Stone, however, Cameron is coming out of retirement for a Netflix film titled Back in Action, in which she will star opposite Jamie Foxx. This will mark their third cooperation after 1999's sports drama Any Given Sunday and 2014's Annie.

The news was confirmed in an unconventional manner on Twitter, where Foxx posted audio of him, Diaz, and NFL star Tom Brady talking. The Django Unchained actor wrote:

'Had to call in the GOAT to bring back another GOAT. Cameron Diaz and I are BACK IN ACTION - our new movie with Netflix. Production starting later this year!!'

According to Marca, Jamie Foxx asked the NFL star Tom Brady to break the news. The winner of 6 Super Bowls with the New England Patriots announced his retirement earlier this year before deciding to unretire and return for his 23rd NFL season. In the phone conversation shared by Jamie Fox, the veteran NFL quarterback says:

'I was talking to Jamie and he said you need a few tips on how to un-retire. I am relatively successful in un-retiring.'

Cameron Diaz later confirmed the news via a story published on her Instagram account. The Charlie's Angels star wrote: 'Jamie Foxx, only you could get me back in action. I can't frickin wait it's gonna be a blast'.

While Cameron's fans are expecting her return, no further information about the film has been revealed, with details about the plot and supporting roles kept under wraps. Back In Action will be directed by Seth Gordon from a script he has written with Brendan O’Brien.
