Alan's definitely not the romantic type. Definitely not. He wasn't the normal run of boys of that age, he was always a bit different. He was very straight-talking, I wasn't used to that type of thing but that's what I liked about him. Don't know why but I did!
Understanding one another
Despite Lord Sugar's success and eventual fortune, Ann's parents were not initially impressed with their daughter's choice of partner. They had hoped she would marry an accountant, lawyer, or doctor instead of a young man from East London.
However, the couple remained devoted to each other and were married at London's Great Portland Synagogue in 1968, two years after they first met. The proposal, according to Lord Sugar, was more of a practical discussion than a romantic gesture.
While driving over the Stratford flyover in a minivan, he suggested they get married, to which Ann agreed. They went on to have three children - Simon, born in 1969, Daniel, born in 1971, and Louise, born in 1974 - and are now grandparents to seven. Despite the lack of a romantic proposal, their long-lasting love and partnership are a testament to their shared values and commitment to each other.
She also commented on how she can easily read him:
The minute he walks through the door, I've only got to look at his face and I know whether he's had a bad day or a good day. When he's had a bad day I've never pestered him or asked him any questions. I knew that when he was ready to talk he would talk but I never knew anything about the actual running of the business or anything like that.
