The new MI movies are being made with UK taxpayer's money and it is in millions, here's why.

With Tom Cruise aggressively promoting his new Mission Impossible movie, there is a lot of anticipation around it. The Mission Impossible franchise is one of the biggest ever blockbuster franchises that produces hit after hit with every new film.

Now, with Dead Reckoning Part 1 newly released, it has knocked things out of the park, budget-wise. Being a high-budget flick, the makers have spent a big amount on producing and promoting the film. Here’s everything you need to know about Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning and the money behind the blockbuster.

The money behind Mission Impossible

Made by the American production giant Paramount Pictures, the MI franchise is known for spending the big bucks. Now, as per This is Money, Paramount received almost £85 million of taxpayers' cash to make the three latest Mission: Impossible movies in the UK, as per reports.

The new film was shot across the globe, with scenes featuring various exotic locations such as Abu Dhabi, Rome, Venice, and Norway, besides the UK. News has it that the second part of Dead Reckoning is almost entirely being shot in the UK, which is really upping its game in terms of production value.

Public’s access to the MI budget

While movie budgets have the option of being kept private around the world, it is not the case in the United Kingdom. The UK benefits from the Government's Film Tax Relief scheme. This means that they get a cash reimbursement of up to 25 percent of the money spent in the UK as long as it represents at least 10 percent of the total costs. Paramount’s UK subsidiary company Jupiter Spring Productions made both the Dead Reckoning movies. And as per official reports for Jupiter Spring, it is to be noted that from 2016 to now, the company received £84.5 million from the government, which is a massive amount.

The breakdown of the funds

With a total of £10.1 million in insurance payouts and £ 1.4 million in grants that came because of the standstill brought by the pandemic, the production resulted in shutting down several times because of the uncertainty in the air.

And as per other reports, the MI franchise has spent a total of £547.8 million on three Mission Impossible movies. And this budget is all set to grow with more Mission Impossible movies in the pipeline for the years to come.

Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning's performance

The much-awaited Tom Cruise flick made about $235 million in the first five days of release, as per Fox Business. That figure includes roughly $80 million that reportedly came from domestic ticket sales and $155 million from international, as per IMDb box office. The franchise revolves around Ethan Hunt, a spy whose adventures are endless. USA and Canada alone generated over $21 million just on that Saturday after its release. It is also noted that the movie has broken the box office record set by Top Gun: Maverick, which was Tom Cruise’s last box office release.

Despite rumors that the film has fallen short of the box office hopes it had, it is to be noted that it is a feather on Tom Cruise’s cap, as he earned a great Rotten Tomatoes feat because of the movie. Fans of the franchise have a lot to look forward to as Cruise has admitted that he plans on making MI movies till he is 80. As per The Independent, Cruise wants to follow Harrison Ford’s route to Indiana Jones, wherein he acted in his last Indiana Jones at 80. Tom Cruise is 61 now, so there are almost a good 20 years of MI movies to look forward to.
