The high-profile wedding of the 24-year-old son of football legend David Beckham and the 28-year-old American actress Nicola Peltz is estimated to have cost a staggering $3 million. However, amid the grandeur and glitz, the celebrations took an unexpected turn as lawsuits and counterclaims emerged involving the wedding planners.
Legal drama sparked by Nicola's father
The couple's combined net worth of approximately $60 million, along with their families' considerable wealth, ensured no expense was spared in creating a luxurious atmosphere for their 500 guests. The occasion was a testament to their status and the heights of luxury they could afford. However, what was meant to be a joyous celebration quickly turned into a legal entanglement, with lawsuits and counterclaims marring the event's memory.
At the center of the dispute is a lawsuit filed by Nicola Peltz's father, the 81-year-old billionaire businessman Nelson Peltz. As per Metro, the legal action revolves around a $159,000 deposit that Nelson Peltz claims was not returned by the wedding planners, Nicole Braghin and Arianna Grijalba of Plan Design Events.
Allegedly, this planner declined to refund a deposit of $159,000 following their separation a mere nine days into their collaboration.
In documents obtained by the Daily Mail, Nelson Peltz asserted that the planners 'seriously misrepresented their skills and abilities and, in fact, lacked the necessary skills to perform':
‘Nicola is a world-famous actress who has starred in blockbuster movies and television shows, including, among others, Transformers: Age of Extinction, Bates Motel and The Last Airbender,’ the suit begins.'
The suit continued:
'The celebrity of the wedding couple combined with the anticipated attendance of many high-profile guests required that the wedding planner have the expertise and staffing to plan, coordinate and execute a wedding event of the expected calibre and complexity.'
The filing further highlighted the significance of the event, describing Nicola Peltz as a 'world-famous actress' and emphasizing the importance of the occasion within the realm of high society.
Countersuit and Nicola Peltz's involvement
According to The Mirror, the legal dispute also sheds light on the challenges that arose during the planning process. The Peltz family reportedly went through multiple wedding planners, including a brief collaboration with Preston Bailey, a renowned celebrity wedding planner. This initial partnership soured, leading to the engagement of Plan Design Events. Despite these changes, the event planners were unable to meet the Peltz family's expectations, leading to their eventual dismissal and the involvement of Michelle Rago of Michelle Rago Destinations.
However, the story doesn't end with Nelson Peltz's lawsuit. Plan Design Events responded with a countersuit, claiming breach of contract and calling Nelson a 'bully'. They alleged that they had worked tirelessly to satisfy the demands of the Peltz family, encountering a chaotic planning process along the way. According to Page Six, the countersuit stated that the wedding planners worked long hours, faced changing guest lists, and encountered a bride-to-be who was allegedly 'too busy' to engage in critical discussions.
The countersuit also revealed the tension surrounding the guest list. The wedding planners claimed that the Peltz family continuously modified the guest list, creating confusion and complexity. One instance detailed in the filing involved an erroneous claim that F1 driver Lewis Hamilton would attend the wedding. The planners' documents mentioned an angry text from Nicola Peltz that read, 'Lewis Hamilton did NOT RSVP. So explain why his names on the list please.'
While Nicola Peltz and her mother, Claudia Peltz, are named as third-party defendants in the countersuit, their lawyers have moved to have them removed from the legal proceedings, emphasizing their lack of involvement in the original contract with Plan Design Events. She argued in court filings that she's not involved in the case because it was her billionaire father who took the firm on.
