When Meghan Markle donned the first royal tiara, many royal fans around the world were wondering why a person of normal background could steal Prince Harry's heart and step into the spotlight.
But before Meghan Markle married the Prince and officially became a royal, she was already in the spotlight in her own right for many years.
Meghan Markle's impressive resume
Born on August 4, 1981, Meghan Markle was raised in Los Angeles, California. In 2003, she earned her bachelor's degree with a double major in theater and international studies from Northwestern's School of Communication and began professional acting.
The first phase of her career didn't take off to a flying start, unfortunately, as she found it hard to get roles. The Duchess previously explained that she was 'not black enough for the black roles and not white enough for the white ones'.
Thanks to her determination, Meghan eventually landed a handful of acting roles. After her first on-screen appearance in the daytime soap opera General Hospital, Meghan went on to star in Century City (2004), The War at Home (2006), CSI: NY (2006), and Horrible Bosses (2011).
Her breakthrough came in July 2011 as she joined the cast of the USA Network show Suits, a US legal drama. The show is considered the most popular and commercially successful credit in Meghan Markle's career, catapulting her to stardom.
Meghan's other talents
Meghan's ambition didn't just stop at acting. After building her reputation from Suits, she became a regular guest on red carpets and interview shows, according to the Mirror.
Utilizing her fame, the Duchess also launched a hugely successful lifestyle blog, The Tig, in which she shared travel tips, recipes, and life advice for women. However, after marrying Prince Harry, the website was closed.
Meghan's other talents have also been discovered in her old acting CV, which has resurfaced lately. According to the Mirror, the CV shows that the Duchess is not only capable of dancing, but she can also speak a myriad of languages, including Spanish and French.
Surprisingly, Meghan could also do ballet, jazz, yoga, kickboxing, and tap dancing - skills that could come in handy for her roles.
From TV star to Duchess of Sussex
After their wedding, Harry and Meghan had an interview with the BBC for their first official chat as a royal couple.
Asked by interviewer Mishal Husain what she felt about quitting her growing career behind, Meghan honestly replied: 'I don't see it as giving anything up, I just see it as a change.'
She continued: 'It’s a new chapter. Right. And also keep in mind I been working on my show for seven years.'
The Duchess also claimed she felt 'very fortunate':
'So we're very, very fortunate to be able to have that sort of longevity on a series and for me, once we hit the 100-episode marker I thought you know what I have I have ticked this box and I feel really proud of the work I've done there and now it's time to, as you said work as a team with you.'
Mishal then asked Harry if he felt responsible for what he was asking Meghan to take on. He replied:
'Of course. That sense of responsibility was was essentially from day one or maybe a couple of months in, when I sort of realised actually, this is you know, I feel I know that I'm in love with this girl. And I hope that she is in love with me.'
