Kate Middleton sent out a strong secret message with the way she accessorised in a rare family heirloom. Here's what it is.

The royal family is always known to send subliminal messages to the world through the way they carry themselves. This is particularly true in the way they dress, act, and speak.

And most recently, Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, made a grand entry at a formal event, wherein she donned something priceless that spoke volumes about where she stands in the royal family. This is what happened.

Kate Middleton’s look

On one hand, there was a ton of speculation regarding Kate taking a prolonged break from her royal duties. But, on the other hand, fans of the royal family couldn’t help but notice her active involvement in royal events.

Most recently, the Princess of Wales turned heads at a royal state banquet that took place at Buckingham Palace. This event was in honour of South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol’s three-day visit to the UK, along with the First Lady. For this royal event, Kate chose to adorn a historic piece of jewelry that hasn’t been seen in public for decades now. She was dressed to the nines, in a gorgeous white dress from Jenny Packman, coupled with earrings once owned by Queen Elizabeth II, as per The Express. Needless to say, her whole ensemble was an homage to royal family members who are no longer alive.

The royal jewelry

The royals love their jewelry and that comes as no surprise. While they have some favorite pieces that they are often spotted in, such as King Charles’s iconic ring that he always wears, there are some pieces that they savor, cherish, and reserve for special events. And this royal jewellery in question is one of them.

Dipping into their precious archives, the royals have pulled out a historic piece of jewelry that hasn’t seen the outside world in half a century. And this is none other than the Queen Mother’s exquisite all-diamond tiara, adorned by the Princess of Wales herself.

The priceless tiara

To deem this tiara iconic or precious would be an understatement. The Strathmore Rose tiara was last seen in the public eye way back in 1930 when the Queen Mother herself wore it. Being a gift that was given to the Queen Mother by the Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne, the tiara in question is known to be priceless.

And making history with her ensemble for the banquet, Kate has become the second person to adorn this piece of fine jewelry in public. And she chose to flaunt this magnificent piece of jewellery on the top of her head, as opposed to across her forehead.

Being an integral part of King Charles’s jewel collection, Kate adorning this tiara says a lot about her connection with her in-laws. Here’s what it is.

The secret message

To a layman, this might seem like any other royal family member wearing vintage jewelry, but this move by Kate confirms and solidifies so many speculations that are floating around about her relationship with her in-laws.

As per a royal jewellery expert, this signifies Kate’s connection with the Queen Mother. The Queen Mother is also known to have had a very special bond with King Charles.

Lauren Kiehna, a royal jewellery expert, said the following to People, about Kate’s choice of picking this particular accessory.

"Kate has always signalled that she'd like to emulate the Queen Mother's royal role and wearing her jewels is an important symbol of that continuity.
“It's fitting that Kate - likely with some assistance from King Charles - would choose to wear the tiara exactly a hundred years after the Queen Mother originally received it."
