The Queen's youngest granddaughter is set to attend one of the top universities in the UK after receiving her A-level results. The royal would be studying English at the prestigious institution, which was attended by Prince William and Kate Middleton several years ago.

When we talk about the Queen's grandchildren, the first royals to come to mind are Prince William and Prince Harry - the most popular Royal Family members regularly making headlines with their ongoing feud over the years. However, it is noteworthy that Her Majesty has several other grandchildren who have not received the same amount of attention as the William - Harry brothers.

One of the Queen's most low-key grandchildren is Lady Louise Windsor - who is the eldest child of Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex and Sophie, Countess of Wessex.

At the age of 18, she is the Queen's youngest granddaughter and favorite grandchild. After several years of staying under the radar, Lady Louise is slowly emerging into the limelight with her thanks to her remarkable intellect, as reported by the Mirror.

Lady Louise Windsor is going to St Andrews University

Dubbed the cleverest young member of the Royal Family, Lady Louise Windsor has just received her A-level results, which lands her a place at the respected St Andrews University. According to Tatler, the university is considered one of the most distinguished educational institutions in the UK, with standard entry grades set at AAA and minimum entry grades of ABB. A statement from Buckingham Palace today reveals that Lady Louise is set to start her four-year English degree course at St Andrews this September. Back in June, the 18-year-old royal finished her secondary education at St Mary's Ascot, having completed her exams in English, History, Politics, and Drama.

The 18-year-old will follow in the footsteps of Prince William and Kate Middleton, who both attended St Andrews back in the early 2000s. While Kate completed a degree in history of art, her now-husband studied geography. The couple was close friends in the first place but their romance quickly blossomed, culminating in a lasting marriage with three children.

She received a proper upbringing

Despite being a royal member, Lady Louise, alongside her younger brother James, was taught to lead her own independent life without relying on senior royal titles. Last year, during an interview with The Times, Sophie explained how she and Edward raise Lady Louise and James, saying:

'We try to bring them up with the understanding that they are very likely to have to work for a living. Hence we made the decision not to use HRH titles. They have them and can decide to use them from 18, but I think it’s highly unlikely.'

In another interview with the BBC back in 2020, Sophie - the Countess of Wessex opened up about her daughter's schooling:

'I would hope that she can go on with her studies, which I think she probably will want to do, and I hope that she and her friends will protect her from anything that somebody might want to do.'

She added that it is time to 'let her live her life' and 'make her own choices':

'But I have to let her live her life. It's not mine to live. I can only equip her the best that I can, and then she has to make her own choices. But I hope for the next few years, at least, she will still be able to be as private as she wants to be.'

Lady Louise Windsor's flair for carriage driving

Aside from academics, Louise, who is 16th in line to the throne, is an avid fan of carriage driving - a sport she took up after being inspired by her late grandfather Prince Philip.

Last year, she made her public speaking debut in a BBC documentary, elaborating on the Duke's life and how 'Grandpa' influenced her passion:

'The Duke of Edinburgh has been so involved in my driving, but it's slightly scary as he invented the sport pretty much. But it's incredible to have learned first-hand from him and it definitely made us closer I think.'
