After five years of training at Manchester United and Zaragoza, he returned to FC Barcelona in 2008 and became an integral part of their invincible team.
At Barcelona, Pique was regarded as one of the best defenders of his generation. Playing center back, he played a key role in the Spain teams that lifted the 2010 FIFA World Cup trophy and EUFA Euro 2012. At club level, Pique also achieved a myriad of trophies, including the much-coveted Champions League.
Gerard Pique and Shakira's relationship
Other than football, Pique is also famous owing to his romance with Shakira, the Queen of Latin music.
According to PEOPLE, the pair crossed paths in 2010 while Shakira was filming for the music video of her hit Waka Waka (This Time for Africa). The track was chosen as the official song of the 2010 World Cup, featuring various footballers in its video, including Spain's Gerard Pique. They immediately hit it off and began dating in late 2010.
After two years of dating, the pair announced they were expecting their first child in September 2012. Two years later in August 2018, Pique and Shakira revealed they were expecting their second child. For many years, their family appeared to be perfect and ideal. Despite their busy schedule, Pique and Shakira kept on supporting each other at important events.
By late 2020, many people began to wonder why Shakira and Pique didn't get married though having dated for a decade. In an interview on CBS news magazine 60 minutes, the singer explained her reservations about marriage:
'To tell you the truth, marriage scares the s--- out of me. I don't want him to see me as the wife. I'd rather him see me as his girlfriend.'

Who is Gerard Pique's new girlfriend?
According to the Independent, the former Barcelona star has gone Instagram official with his new girlfriend Clara Chia, who is alleged the third woman in his romance with Shakira. The couple's debut comes seven months after Pique broke up with the hitmaker.
On Wednesday, Pique took to Instagram to share a loved-up selfie of him with his girlfriend. According to the Daily Mail, Claria Chia, 23, is a Public Relations graduate. She's now working at Kosmos, Pique's events production company. The duo was first spotted in public weeks ago as they attended a close friend's wedding in Europe.
Just two weeks before the couple's debut, Shakira reportedly threw shade at her ex when she released her new song, BZRP Music Session #53, in collaboration with DJ Bizarra. In the chorus, repeated multiple times throughout the song, Shakira declares:
'I'm too good for you, and that's why you're with someone just like you.'
