The ex-Health Minister has recently made headlines as he fights to be crowned King of the I'm A Celeb jungle.
I’m A Celebrity 2022 is chugging along nicely, with all the bugs, trials, and controversy that viewers are dying to wait for the new episodes.
And much of it has focused on the appearance of former Health Secretary Matt Hancock, who has faced countless trials in camp while having to defend his behavior during the pandemic - despite being confronted by some of his campmates.
Hancock appeared to be seeking forgiveness on the ITV reality show after his affair with partner Gina Coladangelo was caught on CCTV, leading him to resign after being found to have violated his own government's Covid-19 regulations.
How did Matt Hancock meet Gina Colangelo?
According to Hello! Magazine, Colangelo was recruited as Hancock’s assistant throughout his tenure as Health Secretary. At the time of the scandal, Colangelo was already married to Oliver Tress, the owner of the fashion retailer Oliver Bonas.
Upon Hancock's resignation, she was pressured to leave her job, however, the couple is still together as of November 2022.
They reportedly have known one another for some time as they collaborated on a student radio station at Oxford University.
Colangelo has apparently been given daily updates on her progress in the jungle. At the present, she has even flown to Australia to be waiting for her lover on the other side of the bridge when his time on I'm A Celebrity comes to an end, whether he's evicted or proclaimed King of the Jungle.
‘That’ll be the best thing about being kicked out, seeing her on the bridge,’ he once responded to an interview when the affair was exposed.
Hancock also confessed that in a life-and-death situation when he confronted snakes in an underground hole during his sixth consecutive Bushtucker trial, he thought of no one else but her.
‘I thought of my children, I thought of Gina, I thought of everybody I loved. I just tried to be calm,’ he clarified.
Meanwhile, Coladangelo praised the politician's on-screen performance:
'I have been watching the show, it would be difficult not to be impressed, he has done really well. He is made of tough stuff. But it is good they are sharing (trials) round now.'
Matt Hancock called his past 'a mistake'
The notorious incident dated back to June 2021, when CCTV footage from a government building hallway found the couple doing intimate actions. This video was swiftly leaked to the publication and it did not take long for Hancock to be obliged to resign as Health Secretary.
This was during a time when Covid-19 rules were still in effect, and it was forbidden to hug persons from other houses. It's unclear when the affair began, but Hancock and Coladangelo then split from their respective partners and have remained together ever since.
While appearing on I'm A Celeb, he called his past behavior a 'mistake', saying that he 'fell in love'.
Before Coladangelo, Hancock once tied the knot with Martha Millar in 2006. During their 15 years together, Hancock had with his ex-wife three children. They met while studying at Oxford University, and surprisingly, Hancock met Coladangelo about the same time.
Frederick Millar, her great-grandfather, was a Baron and British diplomat who served as an ambassador to West Germany during the early days of the Cold War. Millar has followed a profession in health and alternative medicine in her personal life. She became an osteopath after studying with Hancock at Oxford for several years.
