On 4 September 2020, France 3 broadcasted a never-before-seen documentary on Grace Kelly through archives shot by Monaco's princely family. Among them, some rare images of her love story with a French actor.

Who was Grace Kelly really? A young American actress who became Monaco's princess, Alfred Hitchcock's muse intrigues as much as she inspires. A film and fashion icon with a tragic destiny, France 3 reveals a behind-the-scenes view of her life through a new documentary to be broadcast on Friday, 4 September 2020. Entitled “Elle s'appelait Grace Kelly” (Her name was Grace Kelly), the programme, directed by Serge Sampigny, traces the career of the Hollywood star in Monaco using 40 hours of previously-unseen footage filmed by the Monaco family themselves, report our Télé 7 Jours colleagues.

In addition to seeing more of her daily life with Rainier II, the director reveals her best-kept secrets. Although the couple became one of the most iconic in the world, with their “wedding of the century”, watched by more than 300 million viewers worldwide as compared to 200 million Elizabeth II's wedding, Grace Kelly had other loves. Before meeting the man who would become the father of her three children, Grace Kelly had a relationship with the French actor Jean-Pierre Aumont, whose films included “Lili” and “La Charge des Lanciers”.

In the France 3 documentary, we see images of the duo playing petanque in a French village square. The actor used to call her Miss Frigidaire, in reference to her icy blonde looks that made her famous in the films “Dial M for Murder” and “Rear Window”. In conjunction with the documentary, Albert II confides in Stephane Bern about his mother, evoking his memories with the actress who would have been 91 this year.
