Who is Naga Munchetty?
Munchetty was born in Streatham, South London, in 1975 to an Indian mother and Mauritian father. Her family moved to Leeds when she was a child, and she attended university in the city before starting her career in journalism.
Munchetty worked for Reuters and CNBC Europe before joining the BBC in 2008. She has covered a wide range of topics over the course of her career, including business, politics, and sports, and has reported on major events such as the 2008 financial crisis and the London Olympics.
Munchetty has also been a regular presenter on BBC Breakfast since 2014, where she has become known for her incisive interviews and hard-hitting reporting.
Is she married?
Munchetty is married to James Haggar, a television director and broadcast consultant who has worked for a number of high-profile networks including ITV, Sky, and CNBC. Haggar was the senior director on The Pledge, a panel show on Sky News that focused on current affairs and political issues. He later moved on to become the creative director for GB News, a new television network launched in the UK in 2021.
Although Munchetty has been tight-lipped about her personal life, it is known that she and Haggar got married in 2004. The couple has been together for over 19 years and has kept their relationship largely out of the public eye.
The secret to a happy marriage
Munchetty noted that she believes that the secret to their happy marriage is simple - being kind to one another. Speaking to The Guardian in 2016, Munchetty spoke about how important it is to show love and respect to your partner every day, even during the tough times.
She said:
When James and I got married almost 12 years ago, one of his aunts said to us: the best bit of advice I can give you is to simply be kind to one another. She was right.
She believes that small acts of kindness, like making your partner a cup of tea or sending them a sweet message, can go a long way in keeping a relationship strong. When it comes to spending time together, Munchetty and Haggar enjoy playing golf, which they have said is a great way to relax and unwind.
They are often seen playing together on the weekends, and Munchetty has spoken about how much she enjoys being out on the course with her husband.
She added:
James and I are both golfers, and I think it’s great for our relationship. It gives us a few hours together when we’re walking and talking and catching up; it really makes a difference. Golf takes you on a journey together, and it means you stay in touch with one another.
