Climate activist Greta Thunberg - one of the youngest and most active environmental activists on the planet, has made a surprising revelation about her earnings.

19-year-old Greta Thunberg is a famous figure who has continuously strived to challenge world leaders in the battle against climate change.

Who is Greta Thunberg?

A Swedish environmental activist who worked to address the problem of climate change, Greta Thunberg initiated a movement known as Fridays for Future in 2018. The 19-year-old girl was also invited on many significant occasions including the COP26 conference to give speeches, urging world leaders to take action immediately.

Although she is still in her adolescent stage, Greta does not act like an ordinary teenager. While being a teenager means having fun and prioritizing your love life, she has proved to be much more mature. In an interview with The Times, Greta admitted that she had never been drunk before.

She said she would 'never go out drinking' and she would never do anything 'stupid'.

Trying to think of a reason why this would be, she said:

‘I don’t know if that’s because I’m that kind of person or if it is because I don’t want to be 'seen'. I guess it could be both.’

Given her huge popularity, people speculate she might generate a sizable income from her campaigns and activities. However, Greta has recently exposed the way she deals with her income which is completely in contrast with popular thought.

How much does Greta earn for her work?

Contrary to popular belief, Greta receives no pay for the work she undertakes. She said that the student grant she receives as payment for attending university is her only source of income.

Later this month, Greta will release a new book called The Climate Book with advice from international experts on how to deal with climate catastrophe. However, she won't get paid for the publication, which will be published in 15 different nations.

Greta claimed, saying that she will donate the proceeds to charity:

‘The proceeds that I will make will go to charity. It would be nice to have money, but by donating… For example, if I donate it to rewilding or nature conservation, I can start a debate on that. If I donate to refugees, you can talk about why – and then you can explain.’

Greta stated to only get student grants, which she described as 'not very sustainable'.

Greta's accusation of government leaders

The interview comes follows a surprise visit to Glastonbury when she denounced 'lying' government leaders. Greta told festival-goers that dishonesty in public office has not 'only become socially acceptable' but something the public now expects.

She gave a brief statement on the state of the climate this afternoon on the huge Pyramid Stage, warning the crowd that things will only get worse.

The severe effects of climate change, she said, 'we can still avoid the worse consequences'.

During her speech, Greta placed emphasis on the climate issue human is facing:

‘We are at the beginning of a climate and ecological emergency. This is not the new normal, this crisis will continue to get worse... until we prioritize people and planet over profits and greed.’

She said 'we have been lied to, we have been deprived of our rights as democratic citizens and been left unaware' of the true scale of the climate crisis.

The young activist added:

'The forces of greed and profit and planetary destructions are so powerful that our fight for the natural world is limited to a desperate struggle to avoid a total natural catastrophe.'

Greta concluded, urging everyone to 'be fighting for people and for nature':

‘We should be fighting for people and for nature, but instead, we are fighting against those who are set on destroying it. Today our political leaders are allowed to say one thing and then do the exact opposite.’
