As seven-year-old Princess Charlotte attended the Queen's funeral last month, she reportedly exhibited 'bad behavior' that left her mother Kate Middleton embarrassed and even scolded.

Royal etiquette dictates nearly every aspect of Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis’ lives. Typically, ordinary children have rules they must follow at home and in school. But the children in the Royal Family also have strict etiquette lessons on top of this.

Strict rules for royal children

According to etiquette expert Myka Meier, the children of the Royal Family are given rigorous training in preparation for big events.

During these lessons, the young royals would learn appropriate voice levels as well as how to formally dine, and attend formal events.

Royal parenting comes with many different rules to follow like not being affectionate in public and learning a second language, reports the Mirror. However, Kate Middleton can be seen to be changing the traditional techniques that are usually followed and implementing her own. She's often praised for her hands-on approach to being a royal mum. When speaking to George and Charlotte, Kate is often spotted getting down to her children's eye level and she often does this when greeting children she doesn't know too.

Given Kate Middleton's prudent parenting techniques, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis are often thought of as good children who always behave well.

But on Monday, September 19, Princess Charlotte, 7, and her elder brother Prince George, 9, shocked the world by attending the late Queen's state burial.

According to the Express, during the ceremonial event, Princess Charlotte allegedly engaged in ‘bad behavior’ during the burial of Queen Elizabeth II, which resulted in her mother, Kate Middleton, getting a telling off from a senior member of the royal family.

According to MyLondon, George seemed to pinch his sister when the two oldest kids of Kate Middleton and Prince William arrived at Westminster's Welling Arch.

The Princess yelled out in pain at this point as she felt her brother's might, quickly turned to face George, and then said, ‘Ow!’.

Some royals, like Meghan Markle, thought it was adorable as she bowed her head and smiled at the young siblings. Others, though, apparently thought the conversation was needless and impolite.

Specifically, Queen Camilla is said to have scowled and pointed at Charlotte, and then glared angrily at the Princess of Wales. The incident was also caught on live television when observant viewers immediately called attention to the ‘disagreement’ between the two.

People's reactions to the awkward incident

People who were at home watching the state burial on television quickly took to social media to express their opinions about the uproar.

One person wrote on social media:

‘Looks like Prince George and Princess Charlotte have a small disagreement. Look at The Queen Consort, Camilla.'

While another said: ‘What did Charlotte say when she turned back around? Was it wow? Ow? Cow?’.

The Cambridge children's preparation to becoming senior royals

The royal children are used to participating in public royal events that are occasionally shown live on television, and they are often well-behaved.

The two eldest children of Prince William and Kate, who are now second and third in line to the throne, are reportedly planning to use their anticipated presence at the crowning on May 6, 2023, as preparation for their future roles as senior royals. The princess may have a new title bestowed upon her by King Charles as well.

The three Cambridge children were photographed waving to the audience when they celebrated the late sovereign's Platinum Jubilee in June on previous occasions.
