The so-called hardest working royal is famous for her very strange requests for meals - which include ripe bananas for every breakfast.

Princess Anne's dedication to her royal duties is well-known. Despite the bereavement of losing her mother, Queen Elizabeth II, she carried out an impressive 214 engagements last year. As the hardest-working royal member, she has been given a leading role in the Coronation, where she will act as 'personal aide-de-camp' to King Charles. Her role in the upcoming Coronation ceremony, as the 'Gold-Stick-in-Waiting,' highlights her years of unwavering loyalty and service to the monarchy.

As a royal with a busy schedule, Princess Anne's diet is an essential part of her routine to get through her long days of engagements.

From her overripe bananas for breakfast to her fruit rations and enjoyment of kippers, Princess Anne prioritizes nutritious choices to fuel her demanding schedule.

Strange requests for breakfast

According to The Mirror, Palace staff has claimed that Princess Anne begins her day with a bowl of fruit, although this is not a typical fruit salad. According to Darren McGrady, a former chef to the royals, 'Princess Anne almost always preferred the bananas almost black and overripe'. This unusual preference may be attributed to the fact that brown bananas are sweeter due to the breakdown of starch and chlorophyll into sugar, reports Healthline.

Additionally, it is worth noting that royals traditionally eat with cutlery, including bananas. Princess Anne's bananas are prepared by cutting off the ends, slicing the peel from end to end, and opening the unpeeled fruit. The fruit is then sliced into circles and eaten with a fork, adhering to royal dining etiquette.

Nutritional lunch

Princess Anne often skips lunch but ensures she has fruit rations stored in her handbag for when she feels peckish. She is known to keep a kiwi fruit in her handbag for emergencies. Kiwi is considered a superfruit, packed with vitamin C and vitamin K. It can also aid in the digestion of meat and other proteins, according to Healthline.

Furthermore, Princess Anne has shown her appreciation for kippers, a traditional British dish made from smoked herring. She once sent a complimentary letter to Fortune Kippers, a renowned smokehouse in Whitby, North Yorkshire, expressing her enjoyment of their kippers. The company's website reveals: 'Members of the Royal Family have also been known to enjoy our kippers, and HRH the Princess Anne has written to Barry and Derek telling them how much she enjoys their kippers.'

Dinner

Princess Anne enjoys a fancy dinner, and her favorite dish was revealed when she guest-edited an edition of Country Life magazine for her 70th birthday in 2020. Anne's perfect meal is devilled pheasant, which involves poaching whole pheasants, shredding the meat, and keeping it warm in the poaching juices. The shredded meat is then mixed with freshly whipped cream and Green Label mango chutney.

The Ritz's Executive Chef, John Williams, shared the decadent-yet-simple recipe, explained:

'Basically, a couple of whole pheasants are poached, then taken off the bone, shredded, and kept warm in the poaching juices. You just add freshly whipped cream, left in the fridge for an hour to stiffen, mixed with a good amount of Green Label mango chutney.'
