Sarah Ferguson shares the Queen's last words to her as death anniversary approaches

From being at ease when she met the late Queen, to their last exchange of words, Sarah Ferguson fondly remembers her former mum-in-law.

With the first death anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II approaching on the 8th of September, everyone can’t help but recall their fondest memories of her. The whole world was shaken by the announcement of the Queen’s death, but the shock is especially true in the case of her immediate family.

Queen Elizabeth’s former daughter-in-law, Sarah Ferguson, recently recalled some of the good times she had with the late Queen. She revealed the last words of Queen Elizabeth to her in her podcast. This is what Sarah Ferguson had to say about the Queen.

The Queen’s last words to Sarah Ferguson

Sarah Ferguson, also known as the Duchess of York, was married to Prince Andrew. Thus, making the Queen her mother-in-law. Despite the marriage going south, Sarah has managed to maintain a good relationship with the royal family. Sarah, who has a podcast known as Tea Talks with the Duchess and Sarah, concluded the episode of last week with some juicy details of her last conversation with the late Queen. Sarah, who wasn’t being her authentic self at the time, said the following about what the Queen told her the last time they spoke.

"It's the last thing that the Queen said to me: 'Just be yourself, Sarah, And she saw it. She just got so annoyed when I wasn’t being myself. And that’s probably when I got into all the pickles. But now I am myself, and I’m just so lucky to be able to be myself. It’s so hard. What a journey”

Sarah’s words about the Queen’s death

While Sarah mourned the loss of the monarch like the rest of the royal family, she shared another angle about how she felt during the time. As per Hola! Sarah revealed that she felt ‘liberated’ when the Queen passed away. She said the following about it.

“I don’t know whether it’s the Queen passing on that I now think I can just sort of say openly what I want to say without worrying I’m gonna offend somebody. I’m really, truly authentic Sarah now.”

She also penned down her thoughts about the Queen and sent in the form of a tribute published with Hello!, about her relationship with her at the time of her passing, which read.

"To me, she was the most incredible mother-in-law and friend. I will always be grateful to her for the generosity she showed me in remaining close to me even after my divorce. I will miss her more than words can express.”

Sarah Ferguson’s relationship with the Queen

Fergie, as Sarah Ferguson is popularly known, has always been in awe of the late Queen, and has expressed that they had a special bond, many a time. She has also mentioned that the Queen has been a total idol to her and that she instantly feels at ease in the presence of her former mother-in-law.

“She knew how to make people feel good. She never took it onboard as about her. It's about the monarchy, about making someone feel good. She was my total idol."

She is so close to the Queen that she even adopted the two surviving royal corgis - Sandy and Muick, after the Queen passed away. As per People Magazine, the dogs were a gift to the Queen from Fergie, Prince Andrew, and their daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie. She said the following about the late Queen’s beloved pets, who she now calls her own.

“They are national icons, so every time they run chasing a squirrel, I panic," the Duchess shared. "But they're total joys, and I always think that when they bark at nothing, and there's no squirrels in sight, I believe it's because the Queen is passing by."
