The Voice UK judge admitted that he was putting on too much weight to fit into clothes, which prompted him to change his eating habits.

The legendary singer was aware of his weight and the need to change as he could not wear his suit anymore. According to the Mirror, Tom Jones has explained how a simple diet change helped him lose two stones in five months.

Tom Jones' reason to change his diet

Although he is already 82, the Welsh male singer, who has been The Voice's judge since 2012, has put great effort into maintaining his body as he has had to deal with his health issues.

He is at the moment prepared for hip replacement surgery, and allegations have spread that the music legend ‘collapsed’ immediately before going on stage. However, a message on his social media pages dismissed this as ‘pure rumor.’

Although he managed to stay in shape for several years, the Delilah singer switched to the caveman diet after experiencing a sudden weight increase. This helped him shed two stones in only five months.

Sir Tom discussed his weight reduction at the time on a Radio 2 broadcast:

‘I was putting too much weight on. I didn't think I was going to and I left the working out for a bit, though I'd keep a check on it.’

The Sexbomb star added what made him change his diet:

‘But with the Christmas puddings and cakes, before I knew it I was 230lb (16.4 stone) which was 30lb more than I should be. I couldn't get into my suits. That's when I thought: 'This has got to stop'.’

The singer revealed that he follows the Paleo diet, which includes a variety of lean meats, seafood, fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds that ‘get back to what we used to eat when we were hunters and gatherers’.

‘Eat anything that's natural – meat, fish, veg’, Tom earlier stated on a radio broadcast. He also reduced his alcohol consumption; at one point, he admits to drinking a bottle of wine at supper, according to the Liverpool Echo.

Tom Jones altered his lifestyle with the advice of a dietitian. ‘Health is very important,’ he shared, ‘You’ve got to take care of yourself.’

Mentioning his drinking routines, he said:

‘The dietician asked: 'how much do you drink?' I told him I like a bottle of red wine with my dinner. To yourself?'

The music icon added playfully:

‘What I didn't tell him was I'd started with a martini, had a cognac and a bottle of champagne too.’

Sir Tom now looks wonderful, and it is hard to believe he is 82. Fortunately, in a recent interview, the It's Not Unusual singer comforted fans, saying:

‘I’ll still be performing when I’m 100 if I can. When I was young, I used to say I’ll be doing it until I was 97, but it’s not that far away now’.

According to the Mayo Clinic, the caveman diet stimulates rapid weight loss and has various additional health benefits, from improving glucose tolerance and lower blood pressure to improving appetite management.

The lack of whole grains, legumes, and dairy products distinguishes the Paleo diet from other healthy diets. Vegetables, fruits, and nuts are ample in a Paleo diet. Sir Tom also emphasized how regularly he works out with a personal trainer, in addition to cutting back on alcohol and eating like a caveman.
