Brooklyn Beckham says he gave up his football dream because of his father David

Rising to stardom in the 1990s as a brilliant midfielder playing for Manchester United, David Beckham was undoubtedly one of the most recognizable sports figures in history. The former football star, who was famous for his incredibly bending free-kicks and set-pieces, achieved tremendous success with top clubs in Europe, most notably Manchester United, AC Milan, and Paris Saint-Germain. During his glittering career spanning nearly 20 years, David amassed an impressive 19 trophies, scoring 129 goals from 729 appearances.

Aside from his glorious football career, David is equally famous for his high-profile marriage to former Spice Girls star Victoria Beckham. Having been together for more than two decades, the couple shares four children: Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz, and Harper. However, only Romeo Beckham is following in his footsteps as a professional footballer.

Brooklyn once pursued professional football

Meanwhile, David's eldest son Brooklyn is now pursuing a professional cooking career after several failed endeavors. In fact, the 23-year-old once carried on David's football tradition when he and his two younger brothers joined the famed Arsenal’s Hale End academy in 2014 with a view to landing a scholarship to the London club's first team. There, Brooklyn received training alongside several Arsenal’s U18s talents such as Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Joe Chris Willock, and Eddie Nketiah. Unfortunately, due to Brooklyn's substandard performance, Arsenal released him in 2015 to make room for other young players. While he certainly could have signed up with a lower-tier club in England, Brooklyn decided to call it quits, which helped him break free from the pressures to replicate his father's accomplishments.

Speaking to Variety, Brooklyn recalls a conversation he had with his father David after he decided to give up football. He told the outlet that his father 'wasn't sad' about his decision:

'My dad wasn’t sad, because he was like, I just want you to be happy. But of course, I was sad. It was my whole life since I was literally 2.'

Brooklyn also opened up about how his father's achievement was putting pressure on him:

'To try and live up to what my dad did in football, I was just like, that’s going to be a bit difficult.'

According to Metro, after retiring from football, Brooklyn Beckham has forayed into many different areas, including modeling, photography, and most recently. However, his initial pursuits apparently didn't connect. He once dabbled in professional modeling and used to be the face of fashion giant Superdry, before the brand axed him earlier this summer due to conflicting styles.

Brooklyn also made an attempt at photography after he completed his study at New York's Parsons School Of Design. However, his works were deemed a 'devaluation of art' by many photography experts.

Brooklyn's newfound passion for cooking

Now, the 23-year-old social media personality has apparently found his ultimate dream - cooking. In the interview with Variety, Brooklyn opened up about his intention of launching an English-style pub in America, where he spends most of his time after marrying Bates Motel star Nicola Peltz. He said:

'I would love to have my own pub. I would love to have my own sauces, knives, pots and pans, Not like a chef — I'm always going to be learning about cooking. I want to have so many TV shows, and hopefully one day open up a pub in LA, because LA needs a pub.'

Brooklyn also added that he'd love to serve 'a healthier version of comfort food', which could be a fascinating TV show subject:

'I've always said to my wife, we should actually do a reality TV show because she's so funny. And we take the p**s out of each other all the time. She sometimes doesn't get my English humor.'

Previously, Brooklyn was slammed by professional cooking chefs after he appeared on The Late Late Show with James Corden to show off his '100% self-taught' cooking skills. The 23-year-old was ridiculed for his 'lack of professional training as a chef' and thus his appearance on the show was just thanks to his parents' fame and James Corden's close relation to the family, as written by the Dailymail.

Elsewhere in the interview, Brooklyn and Nicola Peltz also addressed the recent feud between the Transformers: Age of Extinction actress and the Beckham family, which was reported to begin when Nicola opted for a Valentino instead of Victoria Beckham for her wedding dress. She told Variety:

‘I was going to, and I really wanted to, and then a few months down the line, she realized that her atelier couldn’t do it, so then I had to pick another dress. She didn’t say you can’t wear it; I didn’t say I didn’t want to wear it.’
