Financial burden led to closure

As per The Mirror, Gino D'Acampo recently had to make the difficult decision to shut down his chain of Italian restaurants due to significant financial challenges. The business found itself in debt amounting to a staggering £5.4 million, leading to its closure. Liquidators were appointed to conduct a thorough investigation, which is reported to cost £150,000. The investigation aims to uncover the reasons behind the debt accumulation and also examine the conduct of major stakeholders.

In addition to the closure of his restaurants, D'Acampo made headlines when he stepped down from his role on ITV's Gordon, Gino and Fred: Road Trip.

His decision to leave the popular ITV show earlier this year raised eyebrows among fans and sparked speculation about the reasons behind his departure. While initial reports suggested a fallout between Gino and his co-stars Gordon Ramsay and Fred Sirieix, the TV chef recently revealed the real motivations behind his exit. During an appearance on Heart Breakfast with Jamie Theakston and Amanda Holden, Gino shed light on the circumstances that led to his departure from the show.

According to Gino, the decision to leave was primarily driven by scheduling conflicts and the increasing complexities of the contracts involved. For Gino, maintaining strong personal relationships and preserving the friendships he had formed with Gordon Ramsay and Fred Sirieix was of paramount importance. He explained:

'What happened is we tried to put the dates down to the show, and then all of a sudden they get cancelled... I thought, 'you know what, let me get out of this before the friendship is going to suffer'. I'd rather have the friendship and not have the show.'
