Richard Madeley is a celebrated TV presenter and writer, who has captured the hearts of UK audiences by headlining various fan-favorite shows. From This Morning to Good Morning Britain (GMB), Richard has presented several shows during the course of his 45+ year career.

Being a staple in English households, he has garnered a lot of love from fans. But within the love, there is also room for hate. And recently, Richard Madeley encountered some serious hate from a viewer, while on the streets. Here’s what happened, and what Richard had to say about the unpleasant experience.

Richard Madeley gets confronted

In what can be described as an unpleasant encounter, Richard Madeley was confronted on the streets by an angry viewer. Being a popular public figure, Richard Madeley attracts attention anywhere he goes. But, this time, the attention turned bitter as an angry fan had an outburst at him at Cornwall. Richard opened up about this negative and aggressive incident in a podcast and shared his thoughts on people acting like this.

The angry viewer’s words

Richard has admitted that most fan interactions are pleasant, but this one was far from it. Speaking on the How to Be 60 podcast, Richard explained how the interaction with the angry viewer went. He said the following.

“He came right into my space, finger jabbing at my chest and he said: ‘I just want you to know that everything you’ve ever done, everything you’ve ever said or will say, I loathe and [bleeping] despise, you [bleep],'

Richard Madeley’s reaction to hate

Richard Madeley has revealed that he finds this whole situation a little hilarious. And he also mentioned that he doesn’t take these kind of situations too seriously. In fact, he mentioned that the worse the abuse, the funnier he finds it. The GMB star also claimed to have burst out laughing as a response. He said:

“I just burst out laughing, because he was ridiculous. But honestly, I couldn’t give a [bleep].”

Looking at the silver lining

While this particular incident leaves a sour taste in anyone’s mouth, Richard claims that interactions with his viewers are mostly pleasant. This is true, especially in the case of face-to-face interactions. He said:

“I don’t get that sort of stuff out in the street at all. People are very friendly, they often come up and talk. We have intelligent sensible conversations. I don’t get that sort of stuff out in the street at all. People are very friendly, they often come up and talk. We have intelligent sensible conversations.”

Despite saying this, he went on to say that there is a clear difference between face-to-face interactions and online interactions.

Richard’s take on online hate

With online cancel culture, keyboard warriors have a field day when they can pick on a famous figure. Richard’s case is no different. He addressed how the online hate can get a little out of hand, and said the following as per Entertainment Daily. He even joked about online bullying by saying that he would be subjected to abuse on Twitter if he coughed or sneezed in the wrong direction.

“You don’t see it in the real world. You have to remember that. I know there are some people who are badmouthed on Twitter and it really [bleeps] them up and it shouldn’t.”

He also went on to say that he is truly unaffected and unbothered by online hate, as it does not affect his work in any way. He said the following.

“And we all know that the abuse online, particularly on Twitter, comes from a tiny minority of people.”
