Stunning the world recently, singer and actor Ricky Martin announced his separation from his partner Jwan Yosef. Ricky and Jwan announced their untimely split to the world after over six years of marriage in an exclusive statement.
Despite being deemed as one of the power couples of the entertainment world, reports have it that this split was a long time coming. In a recent interview with Telemundo, Ricky Martin opened up about the rarer and finer details of his separation from Jwan. Here’s what Ricky Martin said about his personal life and his heartbreaking separation.
The mutual decision
As per Hola, Martin and Yosef expressed that the split was a mutual decision, taken with love, respect, and dignity, keeping in mind their children. And it was also mentioned that the former couple intended to keep peace with a healthy family dynamic that involves co-parenting and friendship. As per Martin’s conversation with journalist Lourdes Collazo, it was hinted that the separation was a long time coming, and it started before the pandemic. He also said that:
“When the public found out, we had already gone through a grieving process,”
Shielding the children from the separation
Safeguarding and protecting their children from their separation has been the top priority for Martin and Yosef. Ricky Martin has two children of his own who were born through surrogacy back in 2008. And it is to be noted that Martin will continue to raise them by himself.
After his marriage to Jwan Yosef, the couple welcomed two children that they co-parent together, in the years 2018 (Lucia) and 2019 (Renn). With small, impressionable children at home, the former couple made sure that they never fought in front of their kids. And that they resolved all their conflicts through conversation. As per Hola, the following is what Ricky Martin said about how conflict resolution worked in their household.
“My children never saw a fight between Jwan and me. That’s why it’s like, ‘Are you going to divorce, are you going to separate, how?’ because we resolved our differences with a good talk, maybe in our room. When we told them, it was like, ‘Well, Dad, are you okay, are you happy? Is this the decision? Don’t do it for us, we’re okay,”
All in all, despite their divorce being an unhappy situation, Martin and Yosef found a way to be calm, civil, and open about everything that had been happening in their lives. And that the complete process of getting a divorce had been much easier than they thought.
Ricky Martin’s la vida loca
While getting a divorce and ending a six-year-long relationship is no joke, Martin and Yosef pulled it off with the utmost peace and dignity. And it is safe to say that Ricky Martin is not averse to finding love again if it came to him. As per Hola, Collazo asked Martin about his prospect of finding love again and maybe getting married. To this, Martin replied saying that he surely does believe in love, but, right now, he just wants to have fun. He said the following to Collazo:
“Take it easy! It was seven or eight years (with Jwan). I want to have a good time, I want to enjoy life... Let’s take it easy, but yes, I do see myself in another relationship. I’m not talking about the near future, but I like being in love, I like being in a relationship, I like waking up in the morning to a morning kiss, breakfast, and complicity,”
Despite the love and sympathy flowing in from fans, given that this split came as quite a shocker, it looks like Ricky Martin is doing well. The Claridad singer even joked about how Jwan and he should write a book on how to get divorced properly.
