Fans of Wrexham is hoping that their club can soon compete against the giants of England's football, including Manchester United and Liverpool.

Ryan Reynolds, the Canadian actor, producer, and entrepreneur, has been making headlines lately for his football club, Wrexham AFC.

From Hollywood superstar

Ryan Reynolds has had a successful career in acting, producing, screenwriting, and entrepreneurship. He has starred in various films, including the Deadpool series, The Proposal, Green Lantern, and Pokémon: Detective Pikachu. He has also produced and co-written some of his films, such as Deadpool 2 and 6 Underground, according to IDMB.

Reynolds is not only a successful actor and producer, but he is also a savvy entrepreneur. He has been building brands like Aviation American Gin, Mint Mobile, and Maximum Effort, one of the film production companies behind the hugely-successful Welcome to Wrexham documentary to promote his newly-purchased club.

According to Celebrity Net Worth, Ryan Reynolds has a reported net worth of more than £125 million.

To owner of football club

According to Inside Sport, Ryan Reynolds and his friend and fellow actor, Rob McElhenney (who rose to fame with It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia), purchased Wrexham AFC in November 2020. Multiple reports all indicate that the price the duo paid for the right to own Wrexham was around a modest £2 million, significantly lower than both Reynolds and McElehnney's fortune.

The football club, which is the third oldest professional association football team in the world, was struggling financially prior to Reynolds and McElehnney’s purchase.

Since the two acquired the team, they’ve drawn up positive press and awareness for the Welsh football club team. They have also integrated themselves with the club and the community, as seen in the Welcome to Wrexham documentary on Disney+.

According to GOAL, Wrexham AFC has been on the rise since Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney took over the team. The team has risen in rankings, and they currently sit atop the National League, challenging for promotion back to the Football League.

The success of the football club has also drawn attention from the Premier League giants, namely Chelsea and Manchester United.

According to the Daily Post, Wrexham is set to enjoy headline friendlies against these teams on a pre-season tour in the United States this summer.

Reynold's team will face off against Manchester United in San Diego in July as part of United's preseason tour of the US, which includes a potential game in Las Vegas. Meanwhile, the club is also in discussions with Chelsea about a friendly match that will likely take place on July 19 at the Kenan Memorial Stadium in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

Bright future ahead for Wrexham

Ryan Reynolds has recently earned a lucrative income after selling his wireless firm Mint Mobile to telecoms giant T-Mobile for £1.12bn, with an ownership at around 20%. It’s not the first time the Deadpool actor has made money from major sale, as Reynolds sold Aviation Gin, a brand of gin he has stakes in, for £497m in 2022.

The recent sale of Mint Mobile by Ryan Reynolds to T-Mobile has led to many Wrexham fans hoping he invests more into the football club. The potential money would go hand-in-hand with Wrexham’s new-found fame and success, and Reynolds' wealth could potentially attract top talent to the team. Some fans have even gone as far as to expect Wrexham to climb to the English Premier League - the highest football league in the UK, and stand in the same league with Liverpool or Manchester United.

While it is unclear what Reynolds will do with his new assets, Wrexham supporters are urging him to invest in the team, possibly acquiring Manchester City player Erling Haaland. The Norwegian striker has been nothing short of a monster this season, having netted a staggering 39 times just after 36 appearances.
