From being brothers in arms, to 'arch nemesis', Prince Harry and William's relationship is getting worse by the day.

Prince William and his younger brother Prince Harry have been giving each other the cold shoulder for a while now. The royals have a visible rift with each other and seem like they look for reasons to avoid each other.

From planning their international engagements in a way that doesn’t collide, to not making plans to reconcile when they’re in the same city, it looks like a cold war. Recently, Prince Harry and William were both in London, around the same time as the late Queen’s first death anniversary, but didn’t look eye to eye. Here’s what happened.

Prince Harry’s visit to London

Late Queen Elizabeth II died on the 8th of September 2022. And last week marked her first death anniversary. But this day of remembrance did not inspire a royal reunion with the brothers. News has it that Prince Harry had made a brief visit to London for the first time since June to attend an awards ceremony in London. But, despite traveling across the world to be in London, Harry did not connect with his brother William, while he was there. Here’s what happened.

The Princes go their own way

Fans of the royal family were hoping to see the two young Princes bury the hatchet and unite as a family. But looks like that isn’t going to happen anytime soon. Despite being merely 100 miles away from Prince Harry, Prince William showed no indication of meeting his brother before he jetted off to Germany. As per The Express, the brothers have barely been in touch, and even the death anniversary of their beloved grandmother couldn't bring them together.

Harry, who was attending the WellChild Awards in London, even mentioned his grandmother in his speech by saying that ‘she would be looking down on us’. Prince William, on the other hand, paid his respects and tribute in the form of a small, private ceremony, along with Kate Middleton, at St David’s Cathedral in West Wales.

The bad blood between the royals

This animosity and bad blood between the princes is said to have stemmed from Prince William’s ill feelings towards his brother. Harry, who published his autobiography earlier this year, allegedly made some very public attacks towards the Prince of Wales and the Firm, which did not sit well with him.

There was already some bad blood boiling when Prince Harry resigned from his royal duties and quit the royal family back in 2020, along with his wife Meghan Markle. This royal exit, plus the release of Harry & Meghan documentary and Spare, seemed like a hard pill to swallow for Prince William.

Harry’s words about William

Spare, which broke records for selling over 3.2 million copies in the first week explored a lot of the intricate frictions between the royal brothers. Prince Harry, publicly revealed a lot of things about his brother, in his tell-all autobiography. Here are some of the things he said in his book, that may not have sat well with the Prince of Wales.

Prince Harry has said that at some point in their schooling days, things were so bad that Prince William asked Harry to pretend that he didn’t know him. He even described the Prince of Wales as his ‘arch nemesis’ at some point in the book.

But the creme de la creme was an alleged violent episode with his brother. Harry claims that his brother confronted him about his wife Meghan being rude, difficult, and abrasive, and this confrontation allegedly turned violent. He wrote the following in his book Spare, as per The Guardian.

“The confrontation escalated, until William grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and … knocked me to the floor”
