Brooklyn Beckham makes cheap soup after causing backlash with cooking video

Since dabbling in cooking, Brooklyn Beckham has faced several harsh critics over his poor culinary skills and excessively extravagant style.

David Beckham and Victoria Beckham are among the most influential couples in the UK's entertainment industry. The pair, who became a power couple in the late 90s, is now the owner of a large fashion label and it is estimated that their net worth is around $450 million. With such a jaw-dropping fortune, the Beckhams and their children regularly treat themselves to yachts, holidays, and multimillion-dollar mansions around the world.

A rocky career

Despite being born with a golden spoon, however, the pair's eldest child - Brooklyn Beckham, has so far had a very unstable career. Initially, Brooklyn wanted to follow in his famous dad's footsteps as a footballer but gave up at the age of 16 due to his lack of talent. After that, the 23-year-old tried his hand at modeling and photography, both of which proved to be short-lived.

In 2021, amid the pandemic, Brooklyn changed his mind to another career: cooking. In an interview with Variety, the budding chef claimed that he would 'die for' cooking, and laid bare his ambition of opening an English pub in the middle of Los Angeles.

But since announcing that he will next pursue a professional cooking career, Brooklyn Beckham has repeatedly faced critical opinions from the public.

Brooklyn's new soup recipe is a nightmare

Recently, the budding chef once again divided social media after sharing his cooking ability. According to the Mirror, the 23-year-old tried to replicate scouse - a traditional northern dish that originated from Liverpool. The food is a type of stew typically made from chunks of meat, usually beef or lamb, with potatoes, carrots and onion, and is usually eaten by the city's sailors.

Taking to Instagram, Brooklyn shared a video of him slicing chunks of red meat before throwing them to a stewing stockpot and browning off. The dish was then finished with a carton of stock, as well as carrots as cabbage. He captioned the post: 'Scouse soup x one of my favourite dishes.'

The Instagram reel has so far garnered over 2.5 million views and a whopping 80.000 likes. However, Brooklyn's latest effort appears to be yet another failure.

Various viewers were irritated at how Brooklyn combined the ingredients to make his scouse, and most importantly, the way he referred to the dish as 'a soup'.

A person claimed: 'Literally not scouse … all Liverpudlians rolling their eyes. It’s scouse broth it’s not a soup, we’ve never ever called it scouse soup , either just scouse or scouse broth some people even call it scouse stew.'

A second commented: 'Lad, we don’t put cabbage in Scouse and it’s not a soup… it’s just scouse!'

Overuse of expensive ingredients

This is not the first time Brooklyn's culinary skill has been at the centre of Internet critics. Just a week ago, he posted a short video on Instagram, instructing his fans how to make truffle cream tagliattle, a traditional pasta dish hailing from Italy.

In the video, the son of David and Victoria Beckham was using a ridiculous amount of truffles, the world's most luxurious ingredient, to add to his tagliatelle. According to estimates in 2021, winter black truffles cost an average of $20.49 per ounce, while burgundy black truffles cost $24.93 per ounce.

Amid the cost of living crisis in the UK, many people criticized Brooklyn for his over-extravagant choice of ingredients.

One person bluntly wrote:

'He needs to get along with his audience. Most people can't afford truffles. I worked as a chef, very basic of what he was doing. Would love to see him work in the kitchen of a restaurant and see how he would manage.'
