In a shocking revelation, the legendary Cher, now 77, spilled the beans on a colossal mistake that cost her a fortune related to her iconic 1998 hit, "Believe." Despite penning a pivotal line in the song, the music sensation failed to claim credit, leading to a loss of hundreds of thousands of pounds as the track soared to a whopping 11 million copies worldwide.

Cher revealed a shocking mistake that she believes has cost her millions. She admitted that her hit song "Believe" was written by a group of songwriters, but that she never claimed credit for her participation, which involved coming up with one of the song's most famous lines. During a candid chat with Vernon Kay on Radio 2's Tracks Of My Years, Cher expressed regret.

She said:

"You can't even imagine, about 30 people wrote on it. And I was so stupid. I didn't ask. I didn't even get a writer's credit." The line in question was, "I've had time to think it through, and maybe I'm too good for you. It sold 11 million copies. I could have got a lot of money."

Cher's revelation

This revelation comes on the heels of Cher's admission on The Graham Norton Show, which gives a platform to the world's biggest stars, that she isn't a big fan of her own music, confessing, "Not really. I listened to it until I was sure it was right, but I am not a huge Cher fan!" This revelation has left fans astounded, especially considering her recent release of a Christmas album, "Christmas," which hit the shelves in October.

Cher also shared insights into her upcoming biopic. She is actively involved in the scriptwriting process and emphasised her reluctance to choose an actor to portray her.

She said:

"It is the hardest thing. I have lived too long and done so much; it is very hard to cast, and we haven't even finished the script. I will do all the music myself because I don't like imitation."

A memoir on the way

The pop sensation's return to work on her memoir has been met with both curiosity and apprehension. Cher candidly admitted to chickening out during an appearance on The Tonight Show, with host Jimmy Fallon prying into the details. The diva denied being a diva, claiming, "Don't be ridiculous, I am the least diva-like person. That (behavior) does not make sense to me."

Cher's memoir promises to be a raw and unfiltered account of her life, with the singer confessing that she initially omitted uncomfortable details but is now prepared to tackle them. As for the title, Jimmy Fallon playfully suggested 'Over-Cher-Ing,' though the icon didn't seem too keen on that idea. With Cher's life being as vibrant and unpredictable as her music, fans can only wait in anticipation for the memoir that promises to be beyond therapy!
