From rocking the stage as an all-girl band, to conflicts that keep on coming, the Spice Girls is faced with yet another 'beef'.
The Spice Girls rocked the stage in the 90s with their sensational music that topped billboards time and again. The all-girl band was and still is a pop culture idol, producing hits like Wannabee, Mama and Stop.
After the last album by the band was released in the year 2000, the Spice Girls slowly split and found their own paths and solo careers. The band consisting of Victoria Beckham, Geri Halliwell, Emma Bunton, Mel B, and Mel C still stand relevant in their areas of expertise. They did come together twice to perform, but their unity was, sadly, short-lived. With conflict, drama, and issues brewing between the girls, there’s some animosity that surfaces between them every now and then. This is especially true in the case of Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice) and Geri Halliwell (Ginger Spice). Here’s what is happening between the former bandmates.
The infamous ‘beef’
The Spice Girls are infamous for having several beefs with each other, with different layers of drama unfolding at different points in time. Among all the rifts that have happened (and continue to happen), one of the most recent conflicts is between Victoria and Geri. It is reported that the two former friends and bandmates are ‘not seeing eye to eye’ with each other. With speculations for an upcoming reunion, fans can’t help but wonder how Posh Spice and Ginger Spice are going to make it work.
The upcoming reunion
All this talk of getting along comes with the 30th anniversary of the Spice Girls, which is set to be next year. Fans are seriously looking forward to seeing the girl band perform together on stage, which last happened in 2012 for the Olympics. As per Daily Record, an insider revealed the following to Closer, while talking about the rumoured reunion.
“A 30th reunion tour would be amazing, and there’s been talks about something for years. Vic hadn’t been keen up until recently and she was close to agreeing on something exciting – until Geri said it didn’t quite agree with her and that she’d have to run it past her husband beforehand.”
Geri’s change of heart
Geri allegedly has a change of heart when it comes to doing a proper tour, which hasn’t sat too well with the other girls, thus making them furious at Geri. There is also speculation that there have been some power struggles between Vic and Geri regarding who actually deserves the ‘posh’ title in the band. With toxicity and passive-aggressive exchanges between the two ladies, things seem to be taking a weird turn. There is also some conflict regarding designing the outfits for the tour, which both women seem to want to take control of.
The continued power struggle
The power struggle between the two stars is said to stem from a drastic difference in lifestyles and schedules, and finding a middle ground between them. The insider said the following in conversation with Closer.
“The drama used to be between Vic and Mel B, but now it seems to be focused around Geri. She and Vic are just not really seeing eye-to-eye, and the minute Vic expressed interest in the tour, it seemed as though Geri then wanted to pump the brakes. All the other ladies can see right through it for what it really is – a classic power struggle.”
Whatever the issue, fans of the Spice Girls are hoping that they resolve it soon and announce their tour as they complete their 30th anniversary as a band. This reunion is much awaited by the fans and has been in the pipeline for years.
