Manchester United's leading female striker is all set to say goodbye to the club, here's why Alessia Russo is leaving United.

The Women’s Super League table and standings are looking bright for young players who want to scale up in the game of football. While the EPL is popular among football fans globally, women’s football is getting just as exciting, being the highest league of women’s football in England.

With 12 teams on the table, it has all the popular EPL teams for women as well. Be it Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool, or Manchester City, the world gets to see some fine women represent football.

The 2022-2023 season saw Chelsea emerge as winners, and the dynamics of the league have been changing greatly ever since, with a lot of transfer speculations in the air. Among all the rumors and transfer news, Manchester United’s striker Alessia Russo’s exit from the team has made headlines. Here’s the complete scoop on Alessia Russo’s exit, her future with a new team, and so on.

Russo’s goodbye to Manchester United

The 2022-2023 season ended up with United standing in second place on the table. And its striker had a key role to play in it. But with Russo’s contract with United coming to an end soon, the striker is geared up to bid farewell to the club. With an enormous offer from Arsenal in the pipeline, Russo could be leaving the Red Devils for almost £500,000.

Russo is visibly unhappy leaving Manchester United, and even Tweeted saying that it was the hardest decision that she has ever had to make.

Russo’s stint with Man United

Alessia Russo, who was the joint top scorer for the last season with 10 goals and one assist, joined United back in 2020. She joined under the tutelage of the former manager of United - Casey Stoney.

And from there, her career saw great heights. She was deemed a breakout star at the Euro 2022. As per BBC, she came off the bench to score four times. And even did a fantastic backheel in the semi-finals, as England won their first women's major tournament.

And she is all set to represent England in the football world up in Australia and New Zealand. But, looks like her career with United has definitely come to an end, for now at least, as the club couldn’t manage to retain her. Here’s the reason why.

The reason for her exit from United

Alessia Russo’s departure from United did not come as a surprise to anyone. There have been a lot of negotiations happening for months now, regarding the young striker, but sadly, no conclusions were made.

It is said that Russo quite liked being in United, and was hoping for the renewal of a good agreement with the club. As per BBC, warning signs first arose in June 2022 when Russo turned down an offer from Manchester United, to extend her stay for another year.

While this was happening on one side, Arsenal has always displayed interest in Russo and even extended two record-breaking bids for the young footballer. The manager, Marc Skinner, reacted to this negotiation by saying that she was not going to be sold for any price and that he was hopeful that Russo would take up an extension from United.

But with United’s inability to close in at the right time with the renewal and Arsenal’s gateway into the Champions League by securing the place, Russo slipped out of United’s fingers. While she is a player with a lot of promise and potential, she currently has moved on with an increased expectation from her, given the kind of bidding that happened recently.
