Who is Taylor Hackford?
Hackford, who is a Californian at heart, grew up in Santa Barbara. Despite studying International Relations, he took to filmmaking and became a director. Being the Academy Award winner that he is, he has many feathers in his cap as a producer and director. He is also rumored to have shot multiple music videos for huge artists such as Lionel Richie, and Phil Collins.
As per People Magazine, he was also the president of the Director's Guild of America for two terms.
A look at Hackford’s past life
Taylor Hackford was married twice before Helen Mirren came into his life. He has his first son, Rio with Georgie Lowres, and Alexander with Lynne Littman. The couple first met in 1985 when Helen Mirren auditioned for Taylor’s film White Nights.
But, it wasn’t love at first sight, as the age-old story goes. Both Mirren and Hackford took their time before even considering a relationship. As per Parade, Mirren confirmed that she was feeling cold toward her future beau as he had kept her waiting for her audition. But things took a turn when they started working together on the movie. Mirren who had zero plans of getting married otherwise, had a change of heart after dating Hackford for over a decade.
The relationship that blossomed after
The power couple was allegedly together for 11 years before tying the knot in Scotland in the year 1997 when both Mirren and Hackford were 52 years old. As per People Magazine’s take on an interview, Helen did with AARP in 2016. She said:
“I did very consciously choose my work over my relationships right up to the time that I met Taylor. I was 38 when I met Taylor, pretty late in life. We got married in the end because we realized that we were going to be together forever. "We got married, ultimately, for legal reasons more than anything else. Estate planning and other complicated things like that. And our families, we sensed, wanted us to be married. I always said I have nothing against marriage; it just wasn't to my taste, like turnips. It took me a very long time to come around to acquiring the taste. I just had to meet the right turnip."
The couple took the decision to remain childless, and Helen allegedly admitted to not having any regrets about this decision. The couple seem extremely happy even after being together for 36 years, and restore their fans’ faith in love, in a world where relationships seldom last this long.
