While, this isn’t a plot of some zombie apocalypse movie, Canadian influencer Lil Tay was accused of following a similar plotline. The truth is Lil Tay didn’t actually die or come back to life. But, her social media did announce her death, leaving her fans devastated till notified otherwise, only for her to resurface back in 24 hours and declare that she is very much alive. Here’s what happened to Lil Tay, regarding the ‘death hoax’.
Lil Tay’s death announcement
For those who don’t know her, Lil Tay is an internet personality and rapper, based out of Canada. She is currently almost 16 years old, and she peaked in her social media career in the year 2017-2018 and has been laying low ever since.
On August 9th, 2023, after over five years of inactivity, Lil Tay’s Instagram finally saw an update. But this time, it wasn’t a rap video or snippet of her content, but a post announcing Lil Tay’s and her brother Jason’s death. The post was also followed with statements just as the death was ‘unexpected’ and ‘under investigation’. The post, which is presently deleted also said that the family was suffering ‘unbearable sorrow’.
Lil Tay breaks the silence
Tay Tian, also known as Lil Tay soon came out and squashed the death rumours. She shocked her fans as she confirmed that she is very much alive. The young rapper then went on to say that her account was compromised by a third party and the situation in itself was heartbreaking for her. But, amidst Lil Tay’s statement regarding this, her former manager Harry Tsang begs to differ.
Tsang strongly believes that Lil Tay was responsible for releasing this fake statement in the first place, and has accused her of the same. He believes that Jason plays a strong role in ‘coaching’ Lil Tay, as he has done in many of her controversial videos. Here’s a look at his perspective during this odd situation.
Harry Tsang accuses Lil Tay
Harry Tsang, while he is relieved that Lil Tay is safe and sound, does not believe that some ‘third party’ was responsible for the statement released on social media. He also personally believes that Lil Tay herself is responsible for this death hoax. As per The Mirror, this is was Harry Tsang said regarding this situation.
“My rationale for this perspective is twofold: firstly, the restoration of a compromised account on platforms like Meta/Instagram typically does not necessitate a 24-hour timeframe. Secondly, the actions of Lil Tay's brother, renowned for his propensity for extreme measures, lead me to hypothesize an alternative motive behind this occurrence."
Tsang believes that this was a publicity stunt by Lil Tay to increase her following on social media. Her following on Instagram has increased by 2,00,000 ever since the death hoax.
Lil Tay’s response to the situation
Lil Tay spoke to TMZ about the death hoax and said the following.
"I want to make it clear that my brother and I are safe and alive, but I'm completely heartbroken, and struggling to even find the right words to say. It's been a very traumatising 24 hours. All day yesterday, I was bombarded with endless heartbreaking and tearful phone calls from loved ones all while trying to sort out this mess. My Instagram account was compromised by a 3rd party and used to spread jarring misinformation and rumours regarding me, to the point that even my name was wrong.”
